Harry Potter?

I was just wondering what everyone thought of Harry Potter? Personally I'm a fan....

ive read all the books and watched all the movies. the last movie freaked me out when the girl was possed and iwaas like ahh never again never again!

harry potter got me back into reading books.

i hadnt' really read a book since i finished high school in 2000. got one for christmas in 2003 and read all the series since.

I love all the Harry Potter books. The second movie is the best of the three. The acting is better in the third, but the directing is simply terrible. Alfonso Cuarón is a fantastic director, but just not the right person for Harry Potter.

I'm especially looking forward to the fourth movie, though. It was my favorite book, and since hearing that it is costing $10 million more than all three Lord of the Rings movies combined, I'm especially excited.

Yeah, the books are definitely better... but for a movie to be as good as the book it'd have to be about 16 hours long. But for what they are (a nice visual represenetation of the important things) they are good.

The third movie is my least favorite by far. The first two did a good job of matching the tone of the books. But then the third one went and mucked with everything... the enviroment was different and those stupid shrunken heads were terrible... it just seemed... kiddier somehow.

Harry Potter is witchcraft, it's as simple as that. The bible clealy says to stay away from it.

Galatians 5:19-21 "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: Sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry, and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fist of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

Now I know what you are going to say in respond to this, so let me spare you the trouble and answer it before you ask it. Lord of the Rings, and The Cronicales of Narnia books are not bad. Even though they do have witches in them, it is repersenting a biblical story. They are using the "witchcraft" method to draw in people who like witchcraft, so they can get a "christian" story while reading about fantasy.
Like what christian metal bands do. People think that metal music is from the devil, but christian metal bands are using the "metal music" method to draw people in who like satanic metal, so they can have the same sound but a possitive messege.
Also, I truly believe that the reason J.K. Rowlings wrote the Harry Potter books was to promate witchcraft, and intice people to "check it out" As with The Lord of the Rings and Narnia, they are just fantasies, make believe, they are not trying to make it real, they made a fake world and put a bilbical messege in it.

Sorry for being so blunt, I am stepping off my soap box now.

I haven't read the books, but I did watch the movies and like them. I was first leary of Harry Potter, that it may promote witchcraft, but then that would be the same as the Chronicles...and Lord of the Rings. I have to agree with Tolkien. People should have an imagination, it is healthy, especially for children. I had a real imagination and still do. The Bible speaks about those who practice witchcraft, people who would not believe in God or love him. There is a real difference and Harry Potter is entertainment.

As far as christian bands, I think perhaps we should be more concerned with them as christians than non christians. When you see how powerful and big the christian music industry has become and the silly smoke shows and glitz and glamor and luxurious lives some of them lead, to me that is equally as dangerous as some of the things we as christians say about the non-christian world. I for one don't buy into the christianese world we are making.

Agreed. A hypocritical arguement considering some of the movies on his list. Here's what I see, slasher movies...great Christian values there. Jurrasic Park promotes cloning. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels along with Train Spotting and Reservoir Dogs...excessive drug use. And you're preaching to us about Harry Potter promoting witchcraft? Please. I would agree the books may be a bit inappropriate for children under 10 or so. Also, I don't know that I support the parents who let their children dress up and parade around as wizards outside of halloween. But if the parents are promoting Christian ideals and setting a good example for their children, there's nothing wrong with letting them read these types of fantasy books.

I completely agree, I forgot to mention that. The next best example I think (besides the shrunken head in the bus), was the porter at the Leaky Cauldron, who only a child with a poor sense of humor could possibly find funny. There was a lot more changed from the story in this movie, most of it in order to appeal (or better relate to) a younger audience. Needless to say, this is backwards, as Harry Potter fans are getting older, not younger.

I do believe that some movies and books probably should not be read or watched by christians, we have to pick and choose and make right decisions. There are far worse things available than Harry Potter.

If certain people cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy, it's their problem. Don't judge an entire group of readers based on a minority that actually practices witchcraft.
