  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys,

Just wanted some advice here. I finding it really difficult and awkward to genuinely pray in front of someone else. Even if I really know the person well and theyere the closest or one of the closest people to me. It always becomes just so awkward and I can hardly get my words out... So I've been avoiding going to prayer meetings etc in church.

This happen to anyone else? Any advice on how to overcome it?

If you can't do it, then don't do it. We are to pray as we can, not as we can't. I have never been able to pray out loud in company.

Explain to your minister that you prefer to pray silently, and I am sure he or she will understand. But don't avoid the prayer meetings; they are for your benefit.

I think in modern society there is a stigma about anyone praying in public. Like you must be crazy to do that. A thousand years ago this wouldn't be out of place. Funny how the more modern we get the dumber we get as a species.

The power of prayer comes from God obviously, but as a Christian tapping that power is a matter of faith, faith comes by doing it and seeing the results. Its not something you're going to be good at immediately. Its something that I'm working on myself. I haven't even scratched the surface yet. But I am working on it.

I actually believe that faith is when u believe but dont see results cuz then one if really tested.
Prayer is just talking to God. in a relationship with God, u gotta talk to him Talking to him in public shouldnt be that bad. I do it all the time. Especially with my non Christian friends

It is simply a fear of saying something stupid or stumbling over your words. Realize that you are talking to God, not all the people around you. Also, the people around you at prayer meetings want to see you advance in your prayer life, not criticize you for your mistake (if you make one). When I was asked to lead service in our church, I was extremely nervous and afraid I would make a mistake. The greatest freedom came when I did mess up really bad and my life did not come to a screeching halt. People were there to support me, not destroy me.

When someone prays in front of me, I will never judge them for eloquence or wordiness, but rather based on the feelings of their heart. God does the same, and that's all that matters. Fear God, not man, in other words. With God's help, I'm sure you can overcome the fear! :)
