• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey all,
I was wondering if any of you have ideas on stuff to go in a Happy Box? If Im correct, you collect stuff that motivates you for recovery, or objects that remind you of happy times in your life, so when you feel like cutting, you can distract yourself with them.

Does that sound like a good idea? Or close to what y'all have heard of Happy Boxes before?

God bless, and stay strong.

These are things I've seen people list that they have put in happy boxes:

Pictures from magazines that are pretty or make you feel calm and happy; colored pencils or even crayons and coloring books or paper to sketch, draw or write on; some people like to put in little pieces of fabric that are soft and fuzzy or velvet--something that is comforting to touch; favorite books, dvds or videos; play-do;

Woops! I hit post instead of preview! Sorry.

to continue...

stuffed animals; deck of cards; stickers; those little bottles of bubbles...

and I would always, always suggest your favorite Bible and an index card to go through and write down your favorite or most comforting scriptures.

Gah... I hit post on my last post before I was done typing it... anyways...

I have one, but i have got used to the stuff in it. so I need to change it up a bit.

in mine i have a bible (one of the pocket sized ones). some coloring pages with colored pencils. some blank paper in case I dicide that I want to draw/write insted of color. Some encouraging song lyrics (songs like "for the moments I feel faint). a few encouraging poems and quotes. Some index cards with my favorite bible verses on them. Some letters from friends. A list of 10 things I am thankful for. a list of 15 other things to do, and a list of people I could call. A burned CD of my favorite non-triggery songs (i.e. as good of a song "when i am queen" is... it wouldn't be a good thing to listen to at that point).

I think I am going to work on changing it up a bit today. I am going to print off some new coloring pages. I like to go to http://www.coloring.ws/ and print off some of the cartoon ones :).

Thats all I can think of right now, but if i think of anything else I be sure to post it :).

 I love you sis.

 Thanks for the list, Bethany. The stuff in there is a good idea. So far Ive got a picture that a friend of mine drew (with the Bible verse "A friend loves at all times"), some song lyrics, some letters from my family ... and Ive still got to add more to it. *thinks*

 Katey. Try it sometime when youve got energy/time. It might help some. :)
