it was most likely His wrists that the nails went through, not the hands as we think of it. The wrist was considered part of the hand back then.

Yup, and in using the word "hand" they could actually have been talking about any part from the fingertips to the whole forearm.

What bugs me is that people who don't know about the nails through the wrists will go see "The Passion of the Christ" and come away believing that the nails went through the hands because that's the way Gibson portrayed it.
