  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hand Carved Cross

Hi All, I'm new to these forums but thought I would post a picture of a cross I hand carved recently. It is American Oak and I was inspired by the Celtic knotwork in the design. I hope you like it.

Hi, I would think it took about 3-4 hours to make. I use my own designs. As I am a draftsman, I draw up the patterns in a program called AutoCAD then print out the pattern to scale. Once I have printed out the pattern, I then glue it to a piece of wood I want to carve. To cut out the shape I use a bandsaw, then clamp it to the bench and carve the details.

Good luck with the carving.

Wow, that is beautiful. I like Celtic art. I tried drawing a picture of King Arthur with celtic knot work but I messed up. Celtic knot work is difficult to draw, I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to carve. St. Patrick of Ireland was just one of many Celtic saints who Christianized Ireland, Brittain, Wales and Scotland. Celtic Christianity was more relaxed than Catholicism, they respected nature and held women in a higher position, repsected them better than Roman Christianity. I like carved wooden crosses.

This is my second year learning how to do wood carving. God is helping me to get better at it. Is there any Christian arts ministry?

If not someone should form a group where Christians can do and share their art work like drawing, painting, wood carving etc.

I have been looking for an art group like this where maybe people can meet at someone's home.

Has anyone ever found anything like this? I am in So Cal.
