Yes, evil exist. Demons exist. I've seen them and have been in situations where I could have been hurt badly, but my parents were wise enough to bring me up in such away that I didn't need to be afraid of them. I had (have) Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and NOTHING is stronger than that.

Kae
Not everybody has that opportunity to learn about Jesus as you did. The ones that havn't are the impressionable ones that flock to all the worldly witches and warlocks "stuff" that is disguised as "safe". Sometimes just drawing away the communities attention to it is really the "safe" thing to do like Johnsgal mentioned.

I think you were the one that said that you had experiences with the demonic side. If you did then I don't think that you would advocate holloween like this.

I don't like Halloween, my dad died on Halloween, my first husband was buried the day before and my first husbands best friend was buried two days after Halloween last year. I do remember one year when our church made magnets with a cross on it out of small tiles and we all handed those out with a tract and candy.

I can sure see where this holiday would give you a lot of yucky feelings. You've had a lot happen to you around that day.

The two don't necessarily go together, Rad. I've always loved Hallowe'en for the fun of it. The demonic experiences had nothing to do with my enjoyment of the holiday.

But, the two can be connected as well. I do agree with that. People have to be aware of the dangers of looking to the Samhain part of Hallowe'en. Parents need to be diligent in teaching their children the differences between reality and fiction. Am I wrong in my love of Urban Fantasy? No, I'm not because I understand the distinction. Neither am I wrong in my love of Hallowe'en. We've handed out the baggies and the tracts that CPH has available before and I've had parents thank me for the NICE tracts as opposed to the Chick Tracts commonly handed out. (one of those contributed to my ROCD back when)

My experiences, as I said, had nothing to do with either Hallowe'en or my reading of Urban Fantasy. In fact, I had never read such stuff when my experiences happened. I was still a Romance (only) reader. LOL I'd be happy to elaborate on my experiences should anyone ask but I'll leave it to PMs or another thread.

Ahh---but see you inadvertently hit on the main problem. You aren't an impressionable child.

Hallowe'en = candy and dressing up and "come as you aren't" night.

LOL, well said Kae!^_^ A few years ago I was heading through Redding on the way home. It happened to be at dusk on Halloween. There was a fellow dressed up as Johnny Bravo ushering his kids around the corner. He had one of those big, puffy, and cheezy muscle body shirts on, the hair style and skinny legs with workout shorts on. It was perfect! Hilarious as well!^_^^_^^_^ I was laughing so hard I almost got in an accident! One of those times that having a camera would have been nice.;)

and THIS is why I love Halloween.

The costume part, not the near accident part! :D

I have more issues with the candy and how it affects their overall health than anything else. Being insulin-resistant and diabetes running in both sides of our family I discussed with the hubby (and we have no kids) that I don't want ours out. I'd rather do something more special (and healthy).

Sorry, Flipper, I didn't mean to offend. It just sounded like there was some outside pressure of some sort. My intention wasn't to accuse you of anything, just to express my own simple-minded confusion. :sorry:

As to Christ being born in July or August... Isn't Israel south of the equator? That being the case, December would be High Summer, wouldn't it? Therefore Shepherds being out on the hills at night wouldn't be at all unusual. But what do I know?

Check your map, Stude. Bethlehem is about the same latitude (31N) as New Orleans.

Cheers,

K

Often we live in secular world that we mix old Church festivals along with pagan festivals. It's part of our heritage, the culture we grew up in. Christian parents always are stuck in the middle. To Christians, it is not a wise thing to have children go out trick or treating dressing like ghosts, dark side characters as well as evil characters. When my kids were young, I allowed my kids to go out on begger nights and gave out treats to begger neighbors.
