Not cool. Seems somebody did a total hack job on the email account of Gabe Newell (managing director) of the game. The source code is now out and about on the net.

What does this mean?

It means that there will be people out there with the game in their grubby mitts.

It means that hacks and cheats will already run rampant once the game is released. Multiplayer will be ruined from the get go.

Possibly more delays while Valve figures out what to do about the situation.....

This wouldn't have happened if he had his data protected with encryption. Some people just aren't careful with their data. I have a firewall and a antivirus but I also keep sensitive data on my harddrives encrypted with 448 bit encryption. This way if a hacker gets in he still doesn't get anything valuable.

Well, that's also what he gets for using Outlook as his email program. Use anything Microsoft and you are asking for trouble....

448 is insecure. 512 too is considered insecure now. I think the new standard is 768, but I could be wrong.

Right now I use a handy little encryption program called Super File Encryption http://fileencryption.org/ and its set to use the Blowfish 448 bit algorithm. I haven't seen any programs yet that will do 512 or 768 but that would certainly be nice if I could find one. Do you know of any ?
