  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone like to write haikus? They are poems that have a line of 5 syllables, followed by a line of 7 syllables, followed by another line of 5 syllables. I like writing them because they don't take a lot of time to write and usually have a message that's to the point.

Here are some that I've written for you this morning.

A beacon of light
who guides us through all our days
He is our salvation

Hope, Truth, Light, and Love
Giver of life and all good
He is my hero

Traveling with Him,
Ever faithful to God's word,
Down the path of life

I write all sorts of poetry. I love rhyming poetry the best probably, but I have blank verse and a whole ton of haikus- I love writing them.

One of the projects I gave my 5th graders a few years ago was a poetry notebook project where they compiled poems from others and wrote a few themselves (in class). Some of them still have their notebooks a few years later (they brought them in this year). It's a pretty fun hobby to share. I hope you write some or just enjoy what you see posted.

Ok- so I offer you a haiku challenge- the first five people to post their own haiku in this thread will receive five blessings (one per person- I want to share the blessings)... Ready, set, go.
