As I recall from Dante's Inferno: The First Circle of Hell is for virtuous nonbelievers, and it is a pleasant place apart from the separation from God. Which doesn't really sound that bad. I suppose that Christian mainstream has removed that part of the play from canon.

My point exactly that Dante is not apart of the bible and that the vague descriptions of the bible is not enough to pass judgement on the eternal lives of human beings on the subject of what many call damnation.
