  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Because it's not flawed; it's true.

When did you last buy heroin or cocaine from your corner drugstore?
They used to be over-the-counter drugs, but they were "controlled" in 1904...

So...they're not around any more, right?

Now, personally, if "gun control" were left up to me I'd handle it slightly differently.

I wouldn't worry about semi-automatics, or clip sizes, etc...because that starts you on a moronic path of defining things like what "assault weapon" means, etc. The gun folks are 100% correct on that.

What I'd do, however, is take real steps to try and do what everyone says...which is keep them out of the hands of kooks.

When you buy a gun - there's a surcharge to have you and everyone in your home evaluated. If you, or anyone in your home (because let's face it - anything sitting in your house is in a sense community property) is found to have any kind of anti-social personality disorders, or any kind of schizoid issues, no gun for you. You come up clean - you can buy whatever your heart desires (short of fully automatic weapons, of course).

Next, you go on a registry. To keep your gun - you and everyone in your home needs to be re-evaluated every so often - because mental states change.

They were until they started feeling the backlash against it - remember Cuomo talking about "confiscation"?

I've been watching this push-and-pull since 1968.

I'm compiling a list of all CF people who say "Obama's not coming after anyone's guns" - I'll send them reminder PMs when he tries...

Only by then, the internet will be too restricted (especially Christian websites).

Me and my better half own a gun. We grew up in a crime-ridden area, both had our houses broken into several times and I was once involved in an armed hold-up that kind of shook me up a lot. Then when we moved to NY in late 2011 we were living in a tiny studio in an awful area (two days after we moved in a body was stuffed into our neighbor's trashcan and all that fun stuff) we decided that maybe we should invest in some sort of protection, just in case. I don't know if we'll keep the gun once we move and start a family in a few years, but if we do it will be locked up in two separate safes (gun in one, ammunition in another) and our kids sure as heck will not know we even have them, and especially will not know where they're kept or where the key is kept.

Now I hate the things. I think they're way too easy to get in this country and that it's ridiculous that we're allowed to carry them around with us. I would like to see some very drastic changes made to our laws regarding them (I think people should have to have a police and psych evaluation before they're granted their firearms license, for one, and that maybe there should be a limit as to how many guns someone is allowed to have, etc). I understand that yeah, maybe sometimes they're needed, but I don't think anyone can truly say that our laws aren't to lenient in this country.
