Yeah the big physical thrills are much less appealing he more I realize how fragile the body is. Also, they seem to provide less long term reward. For instance, my Japan bike tour occupies so much more memory space than any set of danger-thrills ever could.
The fragility factor is huge when you're older. You don't think about it in your twenties. But the thrill isn't worth an injury or something more damaging. Riding (horses) is the most dangerous thing I'll do. And that's primarily dependent on training and breed. I don't put skiing in the same category. You can be safe with common sense.
My DH loves cycling. He rides down the Cape and wants to go through Europe. One leg from the UK to Spain. In some fantasy realm in my head I see myself joining him. But the reality of my enjoyment of comfort says otherwise. Maybe I'll drive the RV instead. When I learn how to drive. He'll need a comfy bed and a massage afterwards. We can't both be groaning!
