  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I went to a party last night out in the desert. There isnt a whole lot to do out here and beyond this little range of mountains is this flat area surrounded by mountains, looks kinda like a dry lakebed. It tends to be a gathering point for people. And last night there was a party there, several hundred people and a REALLY big stereo system. It was fun, but about two hours after I got there, the cops show up.

They start rousting people and telling us all we need to leave. I dont know why, we werent disturbing anyone, we were MILES from anything that even resembled a house.

There were 4 cars at first but more and more cars started showing up untill we had about 20 cops there. No one really left, no one WANTED to. The cops started to go into the crowd, pushing people away and telling them to go home. People started getting angry, partly because we were being told to leave, and also because the cops were basically grabbing people and THROWING them back away from the crowd. I realize that that wasnt really out of line for the cops, considering there were a good 2-300 people there and they didnt have much protection if we turned violent.

The last straw came when one of the cops turned on his siren to try and disperse us. That didnt really work, the crowd rushed his car and basically smashed it up. Windshield, sirens, mirrors, all of it kinda disapeared.

One of the cops reached into his own car and yanked his shotgun out, that was pretty much when people decided bailing was a good idea. I certainly did, it was exciting but I have no desire to end up with a hole in my chest, even though the shells were probably Less Than Lethal, I didnt want to take that chance and a whole lot of other people decided they didnt want to ither.

Everyboddy basically scattered, but not before smashing up a couple more cruisers.

My question, is why do people in large groups tend to resent authority so much? I realize there was a certain ammount of groupthink going on and that people in groups tend to be braver than a single person, but I mean these cops had thier hands on thier guns and we rushed thier cars and basically destroyed 5 cruisers.

Perhaps becasue a lot of the types of people who go to keggers in the desert are not the type to feel bound by authority in the first place, such as libertarians, anarchists, spoiled brats, punks,(not the musical type) or hedonists who hate their fun being ruined, some combination thereof, etc.? A lot of this applies to protesters, why would you expect people protesting some authority they regard as corrupt to respect an authority protecting the corrupt authority/getting in the way of their just casue? To a protester, Officer Friendly becomes "Tool of Opression" right?

And people in genral do not like getting bossed around, and then the "protedvtion in numbers" comes in.

They start rousting people and telling us all we need to leave. I dont know why, we werent disturbing anyone, we were MILES from anything that even resembled a house.
You were probably trespassing. If not it was probably the underage drinking. Drinking laws are stupid though, and I think you should have been left alone, assuming you weren't trespassing or anything.

You don't know if someone owns it or not. You just assume it's not owned. Might even be city/county/state property. The fact is you stated up until the police drew a gun you have fun watching(participating?) the cruisers get trashed. Does it matter to any of you that those cars will be fixed by the taxpayer? No most of the time people willing to just do whatever they want don't care about anyone but themselves. Fact is when police show up and say move along you move along. Some people are spoiled brats and need to pull **** like this to feel better about themselves.

Cops don't have anything better to do. It's not like we have Lethal Weapon 4 every night in every city.

It's their fault for provoking the crowd who was doing nothing wrong. That wouldn't have happened if they left you to party.

Ya life would be more simple if there was anarchy wouldnt it.

I dont know the details but I'm sure they had a reason for trying to disband the crowd. Besides you can allways go somewhere else and party. There is no law saying you have to do it there or anywhere else for that matter.

Perhaps they should have done a better job at informing the crowd of why they wanted them to disperse. It might have made the crowd more cooperative.

lol, that's awesome mane. Too bad they couldn't destroy more. ;)

But what a great idea though, break up a massive party where ppl have been drinking, smoking and God knows what, and force those ppl back on the roads. So much safer than just letting pass out in the desert.
