  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, I'd love the scripture reference on that, when you can! I do pray out loud at home/in the car/etc., but am not as comfortable praying in front of others/groups... but we're required to, and I'm wondering why it's required, unless it is somehow better to do it that way...Haven't been able to get any answers on why we have to pray out loud...

Thanks! :)

Jesus told us to speak our prayers quietly and silently while being away from everyone else. His reason for having us do that is because our prayers will be honest and pure. In other words, we'll be more concerned about our conversation with Jesus than how other people view us; we'll have a true relationship with Christ instead of having to worry about our 'upstanding image' with other people.

In my humble opinion...

I do believe, however, that praying out-loud in groups is fine, but it must be on God's term's. As long as it's not the only time you pray, and you're more concerned about with whom you're talking to and the group's personal relationship with Christ, then I believe that's okay.

where two or three are gathered in his name there he will be , when you pray by yourself there he will be.... either or, both are a blessing from God..God does not pressure us when or how to pray.. he will prompt you with ease into prayer to go to your prayer room...but he will never pressure you.. God bless

There are a few references to the speaking - i.e. verbal utterance of praise and prayers. I don't see where it makes it wrong to pray silently, though.

Psalm 40
9 I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly;
I do not seal my lips,
as you know, O LORD .

Psalm 51
15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.

Psalm 63
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.

Hosea 14
2 Take words with you
and return to the LORD .
Say to him:
"Forgive all our sins
and receive us graciously,
that we may offer the fruit of our lips.

Hebrews 13

15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name.

I've never seen any where in the bible where it says that it's wrong to pray aloud or silently...personliy I like to pray in the silence it helps me concintrate better and lets me listen for an answer if God does so choose to answer at that moment in time. Besides, there are ppl out there that for sum reason don't like to be prayed for...so in the silence you can pray for them even if you are right next to them...

Matthew chapter 6, verses 5-6,

When thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

I think when we earnestly pray openly some of us are used as leaders for the Glory of God. If we didn't lead others through prayer then how could some that didn't know how to pray ever learn to pray? (like children or young christians?) How could they ever receive Christ and become saved? How could we feel the support of our fellow christians if we did not hear prayers? (we as humans sometimes need to hear and to see to believe ) We are told to confess that we know Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Joining with others to pray (openly or silently) builds us stronger against temptations, makes us stronger in christian fellowship and adds to our personal relationship with God. If our prayers are Holy Spirit lead then we can not fail in praying.

If you feel that you are not called by God to pray publicly....don't do it. God is a loving God and he doesn't force himself on anyone.(I never prayed in public when I was a young christian either) I realize in the last 20 years I have growed as a Christian and the more I pray.... the closer I am to God. The more I pray :prayer: the more I say :prayer: and now his Holy words and praises just come bubbling out. :D Praise the Lord!! :prayer: God bless you and fill you with his knowledge and love. Amen.
