I saw it, was not impressed, sadly.
Planet Terror was hilarious. It was a wonderful farce on action and horror flicks and it was thoroughly enjoyable. However, Rodreigez still does best with movies like Sin City, so this just seems much less compared to a film like that.
Death Proof was horribly boring. Maybe I didn't enjoy it because I'm not a chick. Trust me, this is a female empowering film, so heavily so that it insults the audience with the message, like you didn't get it the first time. I'm all for girl power and all that stuff, but they do it such an obnoxious and dead horse beating way that it comes off as preachy.
The trailers before and in between were more enjoyable than the movies, oddly enough. They were a laugh riot to be sure.
The films cut corners by doing a "Scene Missing" bit when it was about to get something good, and in Planet Terror's case just cut out needless story - which made it funny. The way Death Proof did it was just...disappointing.
Planet Terror was exactly what I expected it to be: a farce on grindhouse style movies and it was done very well. Obvious without losing its essential subtlty. Death Proof just didn't do anything right. Did not enjoy it one bit.
For it being two movies for the price of one, 3 1/2 hours long of movie time, it's a bargin, but only if you're into gore, sex, satire, and girl power.
