Greenhouse-Gas Levels Rising More Than Usual
Scientists Don't Know What's Behind the Jump; 'It's a Worrying Sign'
By Alister Doyle, Reuters

OSLO (Oct. 11) - An unexplained jump in greenhouse gases since 2002 might herald a catastrophic acceleration of global warming if it becomes a trend, scientists said on Monday.

But they said the two-year leap might be an anomaly linked, for instance, to forest fires in Siberia or a freak hot summer in Europe in 2003 rather than a portent of runaway climate change linked to human disruption of the climate system.

"There have been two years where the rise of carbon dioxide has been faster than average," said Richard Betts, Manager for Ecosystems and Climate Impacts at Britain's Hadley Center.

"We shouldn't get alarmist about this ... If it lasted for more than about five years you'd start to get worried," he said.

Carbon dioxide levels, the main gas blamed for blanketing the planet and pushing up temperatures since the Industrial Revolution, have risen by more than two parts per million (ppm) in the past two years against a recent rate of about 1.5 ppm.

Scientists said the figures were confirmed at sites including Mauna Loa, Hawaii, west Ireland or the Norwegian Arctic island of Svalbard, about 800 miles from the North Pole. The rise was less in the southern hemisphere.

"CO2 levels are up about two ppm in the past two years -- but it would be pushing it to say that it could be the start of runaway global warming," said Kim Holmen, senior scientist at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU).

The rise in the past two years is quicker than mapped out in U.N. projections to the year 2100 based on increased human use of fossil fuels like coal, oil or gas. Higher temperatures could trigger everything from desertification to rising sea levels.

PLANTS ABSORB CO2

On Svalbard, CO2 levels have varied in 2004 from 365-385 ppm, Holmen said. The level is lowest in summer, when plants absorb CO2 as they grow. Organisms from plants to animals emit CO2 when they breathe and the oceans and soil also trap CO2.
A background fear is that extra human emissions, by cars, factories and power plants, may be blunting the planet's ability to absorb CO2. In the worst case, that could lead to a runaway warming.

"These results are deeply worrying, and indicate that the battle against global climate change could be even more pressing than was previously thought," echoed Cathrine Pearce, Friends of the Earth International's climate campaigner.

"It's a worrying sign," said Steve Sawyer, climate policy director at environmental group Greenpeace.

U.N. scientists project that average temperatures will rise by 3 to 11 F by 2100 because of human impact on the climate. Temperatures have already risen since the Industrial Revolution in tandem with a 30 percent rise in CO2 levels.

The U.N.'s Kyoto protocol, likely to come into force in coming months with Russian help after a U.S. pullout in 2001, obliges developed nations to cut their carbon dioxide emissions by 5.2 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-12.

yes i heard about this on the radio this morning , they said they don't know why it's increasing rapidly but that it "IS", and fast!!...

We are on the road for sure now BMN , and i'm not normaly given to being overly exited about the end times , but i believe we are well on the way now , and couple this with the war against the soldiers of Mohammed and a larger picture begins to emerge.

There's no going back now , we are definately into the first birth pangs .

Quote - The rate at which global warming gases are accumulating in the atmosphere has taken a sharp leap upwards, leading to fears that the devastating effects of climate change may hit the world even sooner than has been predicted.

Probably not the most popular of views, but I believe that global warming is a farce. The environment of the earth moves in a cyclical fashion. Some times are hotter than others, some times are colder. Furthermore, the idea that greenhouse gases congregate in particular areas of the world, such as the north pole is an even more contentious idea.

Just had to share my two cents.

Of course global warming is a farce. It's pure mythology.

The earth has undergone massive shifts in climate LONG, long before the industrial age. Nature itself causes such shifts.

Today's environmentalism and climate-change alarmism are nothing more than an attempt to shut down capitalism by socialists who hate the progress of work and the protestant work ethic.

I find it ironic (if not a bit self-defeating) that all these endtimers are willing to jump on their bandwagon. They might as well move to socialist Europe and surrender their hard work to the Almighty State.

How can we get these endtimes christians back in the game? Or are they too far gone? Are they so "rapture-minded" that they are of no use to the long-term advance of the Christian faith?

Isaiah 24:17.

Fear and the pit and the snare Are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth. And it shall be That he who flees from the noise of the fear Shall fall into the pit, And he who comes up from the midst of the pit Shall be caught in the snare; For the windows from on high are open, And the foundations of the earth are shaken. The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again.

I guess if the quote of Scripture by Brain Damage is somehow discussing global warming; then I guess it would be a good one.

Otherwise, hmmm....
Maybe he means this clouds of gas coming as in Jeremiah:eek: Yikes~!!

jeremi 4:10 Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Surely You have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, Saying, 'You shall have peace,' Whereas the sword reaches to the heart." 11 At that time it will be said To this people and to Jerusalem, "A dry wind of the desolate heights [blows] in the wilderness Toward the daughter of My people -- Not to fan or to cleanse -- 12 A wind too strong for these will come for Me; Now I will also speak judgment against them." 13 "Behold, he shall come up like clouds, And his chariots like a whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are plundered!" 14 O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, That you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

jeremi 2:11 Has a nation changed [its] gods, Which [are] not gods? But My people have changed their Glory For [what] does not profit. 12 Be astonished, O heavens, at this, And be horribly afraid; Be very desolate," says the LORD. 13 "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, [And] hewn themselves cisterns -- broken cisterns that can hold no water. 14 " [Is] Israel a servant? [Is] he a homeborn [slave?] Why is he plundered? 15 The young lions roared at him, [and] growled; They made his land waste; His cities are burned, without inhabitant.
26 " As the thief is ashamed when he is found out, So is the house of Israel ashamed; They and their kings and their princes, and their priests and their prophets, 27 Saying to a tree, 'You [are] my father,' And to a stone, 'You gave birth to me.' For they have turned [their] back to Me, and not [their] face. But in the time of their trouble They will say, 'Arise and save us.' 28 But where [are] your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, If they can save you in the time of your trouble; For [according to] the number of your cities Are your gods, O Judah.

You and I must be on the same Spiritual wave length BD. I posted this very same scripture on another topic last week, LOL. People who think that this earth isn't on a collision course for destruction, are blinder then Ray Charles...God rest his soul!!!!! This earth is NOT regenerating like it used to, but dying daily, just like us. The bible says...Rom 8:22-23 ~ For we know that the whole creation GROANETH and TRAVAILETH in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

I live in Central/Southern California. This time of year, we usually have rain, snow in the mountains, and it cools off by now. We are still in the low 90's with no rain in sight. Our major lake is a mud hole from no snow melt or rain. The mountains are so parched from no rain, that they are afraid of more fires. Peoples wells are almost dry who live in these mountains. Where people are getting to much rain and flooding back east, we are getting no rain and drying up to dust. I contribute this to ozone levels, which change weather patterns....GLOBAL WARMING. It reminds me of this scripture right here.... Rev 16:9 ~ And men were scorched with great HEAT, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. That's where this earth is headed slowely but surely.

Yep, just like Jerusalem in the first century. I think if you look at revelation very closely, you will see it is not a present worldwide destruction folks. But then, I don't want to ruin the fun of the endtimes. God bless.

jeremi 2:4 Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob and all the families of the house of Israel. 5 Thus says the LORD: "What injustice have your fathers found in Me, That they have gone far from Me, Have followed idols, And have become idolaters? 11 Has a nation changed [its] gods, Which [are] not gods? But My people have changed their Glory For [what] does not profit. 12 Be astonished, O heavens, at this, And be horribly afraid; Be very desolate," says the LORD. 13 "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, [And] hewn themselves cisterns -- broken cisterns that can hold no water. 14 " [Is] Israel a servant? [Is] he a homeborn [slave?] Why is he plundered? 15 The young lions roared at him, [and] growled; They made his land waste; His cities are burned, without inhabitant.

Revelation 11:1 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there.

Malachi 4:1 "For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly[temple worshippers in Jerususalem] will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up," Says the LORD of hosts, "That will leave them neither root nor branch.

How about we keep things in context there before passing such wonderful judgment?

This thread is about greenhouse gases. This is not a thread on entropy and eventual destruction of the earth. There is a major difference between these two ideals.

Greenhouse gases and the 'science' behind them are farcicle. Entropy is a natural law. Therefore, before you start jumping on people as being "more blind than Ray Charles", I suggest you stick with the topic at hand.

Furthermore, greenhouse gases are no more eschatalogical than Mickey Mouse. Catastrophism and emotion are rampant in this forum. It's amazing how much can get lumped into such a category.

But biblical my Dear LOL:thumbsup: :amen:

Try looking at the 2 beasts as the 2 nations of Israel, the House of Israel[10 kings/tribes] and House of Judah[2 southern tribes/Harlot/Jerusalem. Joseph and Levi get replace by Ephraim and Dan in the land division of Ezekiel. Just study it brother. God bless.

reve 1:6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him [be] glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

jeremiah 2:9 "And it shall come to pass in that day," says the LORD, "[That] the heart of the king shall perish, And the heart of the princes; The priests shall be astonished, And the prophets shall wonder." 10 Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! 15 For a voice declares from Dan And proclaims affliction from Mount Ephraim: 16 "Make mention to the nations, Yes, proclaim against Jerusalem, [That] watchers come from a far country And raise their voice against the cities of Judah.

I know what the topic is about. I started it. If you can't see the connection between greenhouse gases and earths destruction, then all I can say is....Hi Ray ^_^ .

Yikes. Well, since we are talking about heat and greenhouse gases, I thought the furnace in Jerusalem might be like that. Never mind LOL. I couldn't find those words in the bible. Sorry.

2 Corinthians 6:1 We then, [as] workers together [with Him] also plead with [you] not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For He says: "In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you." Behold, now [is] the accepted time; behold, now [is] the day of salvation.
