  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think pride is the worst sin, but it is a prideful spirit that causes people to deny God and act on their own. By denying God you deny your Creator and Savior, and unknowningly accept your eternal life in hell. Any other sinner is capable of accepting Jesus as their Savior and being cleansed.

We all need to have some degree of pride--as it is a sign of healthy self--esteem--but "a prideful spirit" as Ram24 put it (or shall I say--Pride gone too far)--is what is destructive & causes people to turn their backs on God. I try to keep my focus on how I can become a better witness to the love of God. If I focus on that--I can hopefully avoid the worst sins--whatever those may be. This IS a good topic to raise--as it will likely spark good wholesome discussion. Goodness--I have had to do alot of repenting over the years--but Jesus continues to forgive me & love me--warts & all.

I think God wants us to have a transparency even to ourselves where we can see our strengths and weaknesses and act accordingly. If we know where we tend to fall and stumble then it's easier to be more careful in those situations. My mistakes always seem to be the same lesson that i have a hard time learning, it's always the same thing but with a different face or situation, whatever. I feel fortuneate when I get to move on to the next lesson. I keep a journal too, and sometimes it takes many years to learn the simplist thing. Then i think, wow why couldn't I see that?
