Greatest Christian Band of all Time?

holyrokker said:
Being from Australia - would you by chance believe that it is Mortification?

No.

The Christian music industry here in Australia is almost non-existant, compared to what it is in the states (from what I hear anyway). A lot of American bands may be big over there, but no one has heard of them or their music over here.

The important thing to note is, the greatest christian band of all time. That band would have to be PETRA.

However, ask that question ten or fifteen years from now and you'll get maybe the Newsboys as your answer.

I'm hoping though, when it's all said and done, the greatest Christian band of all time will have been the awesome Switchfoot. *grin*

to MoreInSorrow...you didnt think mine were. (btw...love the avatar)

1. Christ for the Nations Music Ministry - in Dallas
2. Jason Upton
3. Enter the Worship Cirlce

most people probably havnt even heard of these people. well...maybe jason upton.

to the Austrailian...keep in mind yourself...that the greatest christian band of all time is not neccessarily the most popular christian band. by secular terms the greatest christian band would be the most popular of all time, but we arent talking about secular. christian music will effect most people differently...the bands or groups that i believe to be the greatest just happen to be my favorites. they are the bands that have affected and inspired my own worship to the Lord. that should be the definition of the greatest band.

so you see...your question can not be answered according to christian terms. only by secular....and in that sense...id have to say...hmm...maybe Third Day.

Greatest of all time, bands with the largest influence, not necessarily bands that I like the most would have to be the following (not in any order):

1. Newsboys
2. DC Talk
3. Jars of Clay (love "World's Apart")

and possibly
4. Audio Adrenaline

Those use to be the faces of christian rock/music. Most of the time anymore when you have a kid name a christian group off the top of their head they will not name one of these and will name a Relient K, an Underoath, Dead Poetic, Pillar, Skillet, Grits, Switchfoot, MXPX, Hawk Nelson, and I could go on forever. However, these guys helped form christian music into where it is today and helped bring it up a knotch or two.

First off, thanks. Loved his comedy.

Secondly, you are right. Your picks were not common, but as I'm sure you know, my comment was more of a sweeping generalization, more addressed to the Newsboys, et al replies of the thread.

The replies in this thread are SOOOOO NOT surprising.

Tell us who and why is the greatest, in your opinion.

It's apparent from past posts that you don't like "mainstream" bands, but don't you think that for a band to be considered "greatest" they would have to appeal to teh masses?

I didn't list my favorite band, I posted what fit the description in my opinion.

Mortification deserves so much more credit than that.

Rez, for the aforementioned reasons in this thread.
