  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When you can demonstrate that "space expansion" isn't a figment of *both* your imagination, and AV's imagination, then you can claim that logic and reason are on your side.

This is a red herring. SN1987a is too close for the observations to be affected by cosmic expansion.

Rubbish. SN1987a is only 170,000 light years or so away. What the heck does cosmic expansion have to do with it. This is just plain old trigonometry and speed equals distance over time.

I'd definitely be inclined to concede the point that the universe is *way* older than 6000 years old even based on measurements of various stars in this galaxy. It's just *way* older than 'science' claims too. :)

SN1604 is even closer:

300px-Keplers_supernova.jpg

6 kiloparsecs or about 20,000 light-years from Earth, first observed by Kepler in 1604. It was so bright back then that it was visible during the day for over three weeks!

Too close for *your* brand of 'cosmic' expansion perhaps. Then again, if you're going to claim that space expands, you can just claim it did all it's expanding in a single day, including expanding every photon in the process.

Their so called "scientific" claims about light traversing spacetime at faster than C are just as dubious as yours my friend. :)

When they give you grief about your claims AV, just tell them that you think that space expands just like they do, you just think it expands/expanded faster than they do. ;)
When it comes to space expanding, I have my own model of how I think it works.

Since God created the universe in the hollow of His hand (Isaiah 40:12), I believe that the earth and stars were much closer to each other at one point.

Then, in a moment of time, God expanded the universe outward, and its contents began expanding to fill up the void.

Kind of like having small balloon filled with air, and then suddenly, in a trillionth of a second, expanding that balloon to a mile in diameter.

The air in the balloon will then begin expanding until it either reaches the edge of the balloon, or until it exhausts its kinetic energy.

Depends on one's definition of "universe" I guess.

Not that I'm promoting the idea, but...

If you're going to claim that space can do magical expansion tricks then AV can claim that the space between stars in our galaxies expanded too, along with all the photons.

Funny how the Bible says that the stars were created exactly where they are though.

Genesis 1: 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth

Funny how I argue about evolution every day, and never get tired of it. When logic and reason are on my side it is easy to argue.
You don't even argue, CabVet.

You make a career of just asking questions ad infinitum.

You even have it incorporated into your user title.

I could be wrong, but you make no attempt to understand -- instead, you just think up another question to keep the ball rolling.

Add to that the fact that any given conversation with you quickly attracts the venters & ridiculers who show up and start taking pot shots, and one gets the impression he's reading the book of Acts and experiencing what Paul experienced, when he was stalked all his life by the ... well ... his antagonists.

He would show up in a town, begin to teach or preach the Gospel, and then it wasn't too long before his antagonists would show up and start mixing the Gospel message with works, law, or with whatever.

He was even beaten to death in Acts 14.

You guys remind me of this song -- please listen carefully to the words:

Oh, I am glad you didn't mention inquisition yet.

I could be wrong, but you make no attempt to understand -- instead, you just think up another question to keep the ball rolling.

Unlike you, I actually read and understand the other side (the Bible), so I have no idea where that is coming from.

Ah, the inquisition, here it is. Sorry if I ask the tough questions and repeat them when they are not answered, but someone has to do it. By the way, can you define maturity?

So, I never vent or ridicule, but my conversations are a problem because they "attract venters and ridiculers". Very interesting. I would like to see some evidence for that.

Here is why:

You tend to receive venting and ridiculing when you do it to others...

I don't know how many times I've answered a question of yours, only to see you give me a standard, "nuh-uh" -- then treat it like I never answered you and repeat the same question again.

To demonstrate, ask me any question you like, and I'll do my best to answer it -- then watch the fireworks begin.

Ok... in your opinion, how do you define "maturity"?

Maturity is possessing all the qualities it takes to get the job done that is expected of you.

Is that what he claimed? I thought he claimed that the light was going faster before it got here. That idea has observable consequences if true and we do not observe those consequences IOW it's a testable claim that fails the test.

Interesting... now, what job, and expected by whom?

For one ...

Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Ok, thank you, I see how could apply that to a person, although it has no relation to maturity and makes no sense to me. A 1 day old clone (to be clear, 1 day old both existentially and physically) of a 30 year old man would be able to do the same tasks as a 30 year old man. No maturity required.

Now, what job (or task or whatever you want to call it) would a 6,000 year old planet not be able to do that a 4.56 billion year old one could?
