If you want some "Orthodoxy 101" type apologetics, check out my website... http://stienekel.tripod.com/

It was designed for my Protestant family, but I would imagine it might have whatever info you'd like to know....
Wow! That's your website?? I found it near the beginning of my er.."apostolic faith journey"...back in the days when I was pre-catechumenate for the Orthodox church...it's a very good source. Thank you for making it.

Wasn't aware OCA had churches with no pews...:)
My Antiochian parish doesn't have any pews either. :p

By the way, I have an icon of St. Nicholas the Tsar-Martyr and his family. In fact, I had it at church tonight because I was having several of my new icons blessed.

er... I mean, you became Catholic, or...??

I'm really curious. You can mail me privately if you like.

Or tell me to buzz off if I'm being just too darn nosy.
:)
Hehe..no, it's okay. I just changed my faith icon a couple days ago. I figured I was getting to the point where I should make a decision. But I'm not an offical member of the Catholic church yet.

Is it like the one that I attached above? The one above is the one I have on my wall. It's a little copy I got from St. Isaac's of Syria.

Even before I became Orthodox I loved the Russian royal family, and when I found out that my church considers them saints, I was a little surprised, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me. The people at my parish seemed surprised that I would have an icon of such, well, Russian-oriented saints, since neither my heritage nor my jurisdiction are Russian. But they did understand once I explained, among other things, that I have a special affection for these martyrs because they are a family.

I have always had an affinity for the Imperial Family, especially when I found out about my ancestor. They were very devoted to the Savior and his Church, and built many churches, etc. during their reign. No...The Icon that I have shows them as they were in life, with Tsar Nicholas wearing the uniform of one of his regiments. ROCA canonized them BEFORE the Moscow Patriarchate, back in 1988 I believe, or somewhere around that time.

:sigh: This is the second time I've seen comments like this in this thread, and I've got to admit, I'm a bit disappointed. If I could only understand why the Orthodox treat Catholics with such disdain when those feelings are not reciprocated here.

I think Katherine only meant it as kind of a joke. :)

Where's your doggie? :(

Large dogs in real life trigger my attacks, but I do still like to look at them in pictures. :)

If Catherine had said she couldn't decide between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Iowa State Cyclones, but said she thought she was leaning towards the Cyclones, I would have made the same comment - "Oh! There's still time!" (because you see, the Cyclones stink and the Cornhuskers are much better....)

It was absolutely just a joke...

But I do apologize if I upset anyone. That was not my intention.

(now I'm wondering if there are any other midwesterners around here and how much trouble I'm going to get in for my comment about the Cyclones...) :help:

It is unfortunate that you find the "truth" disdainful.
I will try to put this as gently as I can:

You are, I am sure fairly well versed in the history of the Schism of 1054.
I realize that you have a gentle spirit, and that is commendable. However, many of your Roman Catholic bretheren are NOT so gentle. I post on other forums, where I have been "beaten up" for my beliefs, and you must understand, it makes one leery.

The fact is, that there are major differences in our beliefs, and we are not about to compromise ours, to bring about reunion. I would urge you to study, as I did, learn the truth, and maybe the Lord will open your eyes.

In the meantime, I will pray for you. I really don't understand your purpose of posting on an Orthodox Forum, but wish you well in your quest.

God Bless!

Ok, thank you for the clarification. However, St. Tikon did ask for a week to come up with information to convince her of the betterness* of Orthodoxy. That didn't sound like a joke to me. Perhaps I should have made my comment there, instead of here. My apologies.

As for my dog, she's taking a bit of a rest and may be back soon. :)

*That's my word, not his.

I meant every word I said. I see nothing wrong with trying to convert someone to my faith. As I said, this is an ORTHODOX forum.

I don't think I used that term, better check it out. My grammar is quite correct.

I know it wasn't a joke. I know you were serious. I guess I need to change my approach when it comes to people who are considering the Orthodox faith. Back when IDD was open, I took a lot of flak for saying that I saw no problem with someone considering Orthodoxy, over Catholicism, because pushing the case for Catholicism, when at least from my viewpoint there was no heresy between us, simply schism, seemed to be nothing but sour grapes and sheep stealing. I guess I need to reconsider this though.
