  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Firstly, sorry I haven't posted here for so long.

Secondly, I probably won't be posting here too often in the future because I am now in the process of converting to Catholicism. I won't change my faith icon until I've finally been received into the Catholic Church but it's pretty much just a matter of time now (just a couple of months in fact). I may or may not hang around CF - I don't know yet (I don't think OBOB is my kind of place somehow). If I do, I may have to choose a less, er, defiantly Anglican name ;), if I can save up enough blessings, but I'll let you all know what my new name is.

Anyway, thanks for all the fun times we've had here in STR and I wish you all the best for the future.

Well! Let me be the first to do this: :swoon:

;)

All I can say is I do hope you find fulfillment in the RC and especially that you are able to walk more closely with the Lord through making this decision. God bless, I'll miss you!

May God be with you.

You've apparently become much more conservative regarding several issues since the last time I recall you posting here.

RCC? Are you serious? May I ask you what lead you to that decision? Just curious - no prob if you don't want to share!

Peace and all good,
Aaron

Thanks to everyone for being so supportive.

Well, there's lots of reasons and its kinda hard to explain. It's something that has happened over a long period of time, really, but I do feel that this is where the Holy Spirit is leading me and I think that I will end up being a better Christian in the RCC. This doesn't mean that I've suddenly become conservative overnight. I still believe, for example, that women constitute valid matter for the Sacrament of Holy Orders, but I also accept that the Holy Spirit has not led the Catholic Church in this direction. Whether or not that will ever happen is up to God.

I do want to emphasise that this decision has not been provoked by dissatisfaction with the Anglican Church, but I think that's about as much detail as I want to go into here.

I saw this coming. I think you'll be happy there. Congratulations! :)

Maybe you and our old friend gitlance can stage a coup and take over OBOB. ;) Haven't seen him around much anywhere lately, though.

It's surprising how many of my real-life friends seemed to see it coming before I did . Of course, the rest were completely surprised, so I guess it balances out. ;)

It realy doesn't matter through which Church you follow Christ, or you accept the Pope or not, if you find your fullfilling and are happy in Christ - that's all that's matters.
Piece be with you, your Brother in Christ Norbie
I hear this a lot, but it may not actually be true.
It is possible that it does matter, right?
I think the Church says it does matter.
For example, they were correct, guided by the Holy Spirit, and the Arians were not, and it matters.

hmmmm... How much stuff, that you don't believe, do they require you to believe inorder to take communion?

Go in peace SO

You will be changing your handle right? I mean it's not likely that the Catholics will be real receptive to a document that shows the illogical ignorance of an individual pope.

Hehe, that could be awkward. I intend to change it as soon as I can think of a new one.

It's not as though I go around declaiming my doubts about certain doctrines or as though I wear pro-choice badges to Mass. If they were to exclude everyone who privately disagreed with certain doctrines of the Church from communion, I don't think that anyone I know would be allowed to receive. I think this is partially cultural, too. Australians just don't seem to get themselves worked up about these things, to the same extent as Americans.
