I think we now know who the "senior House Democrat" was in the reporting from yesterday. I don't know the Dem party bylaws, but I doubt the Congressman from Hollywood has special powers to veto presidential nominees.

Neither do I - but you know he and Pelosi are attached at the hip and wield a tremendous amount of power and influence in their party.

It looks like they are effectively delaying the vote that is needed to keep Joe on the Ohio ballot. There is that also.

The Democratic leadership certainly seems in chaos and beginning to eat each other.

***The term "eat each other", means a whole lot of infighting and blaming - it has nothing to do with cannibalism.***

Just two hours ago:

Schumer, Jeffries quietly pushed to delay Biden nomination vote

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) collaborated to delay the process for formalizing President Biden as Democrats' nominee, Axios has learned.
Why it matters: It's a signal that the congressional leaders sympathize with rank-and-file Democrats who want more time to address concerns about Biden's ability to defeat former President Trump.
  • The Democratic National Committee said Wednesday they won't hold their virtual roll call vote before August, providing that critical room.
What we're hearing: Schumer and Jeffries spoke and agreed to both push back against a virtual roll call vote in July, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Posturing for what purpose?

It's plausible that they're pushing this narrative that Biden can't win in an attempt to mobilize voters. But if that's their strategy, it's a heckuva gamble.

Will we finally get a younger candidate? If there is no candidate chosen by August, could a third party candidate such as Peter Sonski get some votes?

We need some folks born after 1950 or even after 1960 running for office.

I watched his response to the shooting and he was very articulate and only made one slip. He said Former Trump but didn't include the honorific. My honest impression was he's fine and I've felt that more than once. Sometimes it feels like a performance but the reason is a mystery.

Like the clip with R.Kelly and Gayle King. He leaps out the chair and is screaming and carrying on. But it's all an act in spite of the theatrics.

We'll know in time. But don't be surprised if you find out later on he's okay.

That would be the dummest "strategy" of all time.

Galvanize your voters by making your candidate look increasingly less appealing?

I don't know if anyone else has heard the news on this, but I'm watching the lead up to the Republican National Convention livestream through Benny Johnson's youtube page, and he just reported that Joe Biden now has COVID-19...

so I'm wondering if that's going to be away where they will try to push out Joe Biden, and since all the funds for the Biden/Harris administration are locked in, it just makes me wonder if they're going to still have Kamala connected to this just so that they can get access to those funds

Agreed. I don't think that's what's happening. I'm just trying to understand the strategy, if there even is one at this point.

At this point, I really do think it is very plausible that Democrats are trying to scare people into thinking it's inevitable that Trump that will win in an attempt to mobilize those who fear another Trump presidency.

The Democrats are scrambling. I genuinely have no idea what their strategy is. I don't think they do either.

Costa is saying that Democrats who believe Biden is the wrong nominee for their party are “standing down.” The reason is that the country has to stick together and therefore Democrats also have to stick together. This rationale is incoherent, even contradictory. The country sticking together means something different from, and close to the opposite of, the parties cohering internally. President Biden is deeply unpopular.
There’s no theory of national unity that requires Democrats to stand behind a president disliked by the entire Republican Party and most independents, unless the theory is to give up on trying to win the election and let Trump have it.
Crazy as it sounds, that may be the theory. NBC quotes a “longtime Democratic insider” complaining, ‘“We’re so beyond f-,” as well as “a veteran Democratic consultant” who says, “The presidential contest ended last night,” and, “Now it’s time to focus on keeping the Senate and trying to pick up the House. The only positive thing to come out of last night for Democrats is we are no longer talking about Joe Biden’s age today.”

Your source there shows it even less plausible that a "galvanize" strategy is being deliberately executed - by anyone.

Such a shame. I think history would have revealed Biden as a pretty decent pres, stacked up against the whole list. Not great. Not bad. Just muddling through ok given a non cooperative congress. If he loses otoh, his clinging to the office and absurdly egotistical attitude (that he shares with Trump) that only I am qualified for this moment will be his main legacy.

If people think he's a foregone conclusion they're likely to stay at home. That's what usually occurs.

Yeah. I heard that. He's done. This is the excuse they needed to get him out. Even if the story is fabricated. How do you prove he does or doesn't have it?

I think there's a mindset among people in power like a President that the only thing they live for is to have the pride of winning a 2nd term. Not achieving that they might tend to think it's a sign their whole life was a failure. You win the first term sure you're on a high. To lose for the 2nd term leaves one with the feel people thought their conduct and management of the 1st was a failure. If that was a failure then what did their whole life mean? After winning the 2nd I don't think they're particularly concerned they do well. They feel they've always at least made their mark in history of being a two term President and people will somehow think well they couldn't have been too bad for after all they at least got the 2nd term. Some other Presidents don't.
