I work three days a week as a homemaker. That means I spend a lot of time ironing, etc., during which I like to listen to things that are edifying.

I already know about KFUO, and listen to it, but does anyone know of any other good Lutheran audio resources available online?

Thanks!

I went on a hunt for MP3s recently because I got an iPod for Christmas. If you have something like Windows Media PLayer you listen to them straight from your computer after you download them.

librivox.org/the-practice-of-the-presence-of-god-by-brother-lawrence/
This has MP3s of public domain books that I download.

learnoutloud.com/Catalog/19/108#go
Some free Christian books, some not so free.

I don't know how Lutheran it all is, but I like Luther. He rocks.

I like Issues, Etc., and Table Talk Radio, which I listen to on my ipod.

I also like Daily Audio Bible, which reads a section of OT, NT, Psalms, and Proverbs each day, using a different translation each week. It's about 15 minutes of straight Bible, then another 10 minutes or so of discussion. He's not Lutheran, so sometimes his doctrine isn't the best, and I just don't listen to his commentary. But I do love hearing that snippet of Scripture each day.

I downloaded some of the Small Catechism, but I didn't like the woman's voice who read it. I listen on Metro, and the travel noise in the tunnels really makes it hard to hear a higher voice. Men's voices and music come through, but women just don't.

I can't get any of the stuff on that site to play. The play button comes up, but when I press it, no playback begins.

Try downloading it to folder on your computer and then playing it. I might also suggest double checking your flash media player to ensure it is up to date. I have to manually install flashplayer as I use Linux, but it works perfectly for me. I will see if I can find another link to those catechism mp3's.

Later:

Here, try this:

I'm really, really, really enjoying Table Talk radio!! They sometimes have guests, and sometimes do "game shows". Here are some of my favorites so far:

  • They did a Praise Song Cruncher where they analyze a song based on a series of easy criteria (does it mention Jesus? is it clearly written? Is it objective or mystical (on a scale), does it have any false doctrine?). I loved that, and now I find myself using it when I listen to the radio.

  • They did Mythbusters on four doctrines about Mary (Theotokos, perpetual virginity, assumption, and I forget the fourth)

  • They play "Law or Gospel?" with writers and preachers... I recognized Jonathan Edward's law-heavy "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" within the first sentence.
THey also have a forum where you can comment on programs, or ask questions for them to answer. It's very low traffic, but it's a fairly new show so far.

If you haven't checked them out, you might want to. THey are fast becoming my favorite podcast.

So the new pastor came in and shut down Sunday school, canceled adult Bible study, dumped the hymnals, sacked the choir, put in a praise band, and started preaching sermons that could be heard on Dr. Phil's show. I didn't expect a kind of Purpose Driven Inquisition.

Nobody expects the Purpose Driven Inquisition! Our chief weapons are: Purpose, vision, ruthless relevance, an almost fanatical devotion to Rick Warren, and nice hawaiian shirts!

(then the youth pastor is charged with "being divisive and not following our program")

Speaking of which, during lent this year, my church is passing out mp3's of the whole new testament and encourages us to listen to 28 minutes a day so we can complete the NT the end of the 40 days. While my pastor was explaining the process and different methods of obtaining it, he detailed on how we could buy a 16 cd set if you wanted to go "old school" The congregation laughed at him.

that is just AWESOME...I wish I had known about that when my parents were still alive...I tried to take mom to Church when I could, but Dad had to have the communion that the Church brought...and that was only once a month...

I know that it is technically for men, but I would heartily suggest checking out the baloney shop videos over on http://www.lhmmen.org. It will the eighth item down on the left. I do think they would certainly give you something to think about. I just finished watching all four of them. Wow! Rev. Klaus knows his baloney.
