Since I'm having one now..(oh joy) I'm trying to find some people who have had good experiences with them to give me some insight. When I tried to find some info on the internet from different sites or forums they had some but also had a good many horror stories which you can guess make me worry a bit more. (especially the sites that are so anti-c-section which list risks that can be found in any surgery and list death without giving the proper statistics of how RARELY that happens)

Most of the bad stories had to do with infections and the pain afterwards and some had some bleeding that had to be delt with. (some I guess had a bit more serious problems)Others said they had a pretty good experiences..so I'm kinda lost I guess

So what are you gals experiences with c-sections (if you've had one of course;) )

I'm currently 38 weeks now...A full term pregnancy is 37 weeks. I'm already passed that as of last week.

I'll be 39 weeks next week. (when the c-section is scheduled) The doctor would rather avoid going into labor due to the risks (which of course if I do wait I could vey well go into labor)

Yeah be careful reading to much about other people's horror stories. No birth is alike and those forums will only scare you and discourage you. Inform yourself but don't over inform yourself. If it encourages you any, all the women I have talked to and know personally which have had both a vaginal birth and a c-section all said they much prefer the c-section and were very happy with their choice. They all had great recoveries with no complications.

My cousin gave me a great tip, she had an emergency c-section in October and one of the nurses told her to get a pair of support underwear like the kind that holds your tummy in. It really helped her with moving around as pain free as possible.

Question... Why are they taking the baby so early??? 3 weeks before your due date is awfully early... Since you have to have a c-section anyway, why not wait to "bake" the baby longer?
I missed where she said she'd be 3 weeks early but a baby is considered full term at 37 weeks. My doctor is doing my c-section 10 days early because she does not want me to risk going into labor that late with a possible 10 pound baby. Although I'm borderline high blood pressure and think she doesn't want me to carry the baby to term because of that as well.

My Aunt labored for 34 hours with number 1, before having a C-Section after she didn't go beyond 4cm. Her second, they planned the C-Section, her older one stayed with Grandma, they went, she had the baby...she said it was much better than the stress, worry etc of her first labor.

I've had one baby and he was vaginal so I have no experience to give you, at least not first hand.

Ah, ok! In your other thread you said you were 37wks, so I was concerned. But 39wks is Much better. :)

Wellllll... 37wks may be considered full term by some, but most books, articles, and doctors say that a baby isn't considered full term until 38wks. You may say, What's 1 little week? Which doesn't seem like much... but in reality, a week IS a big deal when you're considering lung development, digestive system development, and Especially the sucking reflex, which develops Last. The longer you wait for a c-section or induction, the better developed the baby is going to be.

I didn't want to seem argumentative or make anyone feel defensive about their choice of When the c-section takes place, it's just that this trend of taking babies so early (like I've been seeing around my area~ 2 and 3wks early, and one mom a whole Month early!) for no good reason really bothers me. What's the worst that could happen if you go into labor on your own? They just take you in for your c-section Then (except that most women go into labor at night)... instead of on the doctor's daytime schedule.... so it still looks like a convenience to the doctor type thing to me...

Just ignore me on this subject~ it's a pet peeve and no one can answer my concerns on this. :sorry:

Back to the original post though~ I'm So glad they're waiting until 39wks for you!

I have no personal experience with having a c-section either, but I do know a handful of moms who've had more than 1 c-section, and they all said that the planned for and scheduled c-section was Much less stressful than the last minute emergency type (which they all had with their first baby).

Concerning high blood pressure going into labor wouldn't be wise in my circumstance. My doctor doesn't have a hidden agenda, I fully trust her. You do not know my OB nor my circumstance so I don't think it's wise or respectful to pass judgement here or on anyone else making such decisions.

I've had one vaginal delivery and 2 C-sections. The first C-section was after 8 hrs. of labor and the 2nd was a planned one. The recovery from my C-sections was much easier than that with my vaginal. It took 3 mos. for my episiotomy to heal. With my C-sections I was up and around pretty quickly. Also, with my planned C-section I was able to enjoy my baby sooner after birth because I wasn't exhausted from labor and delivery. If you have any specific questions I'd be glad to answer them.

I had a great c-section, horrible labor. I was ready to go home by Friday morning, had the baby at 11:55 PM Wednesday night, I wasn't allowed to go home until Sat Morning.

I never had any pain with my incesion and no problems with the whole coughing/sneezing issue either. Though my twin had a really bad infection in her c-section, but that is because she didn't take care of it.

High blood pressure IS a real medical risk. I wasn't talking about someone with a real medical risk, just in general. Sorry I didn't clarify.

My medical risk is that there is a high likelyhood of the baby's shoulders (shoulder dystocia) getting stuck. Meaning they have only 5 minutes to get the baby out. I'm not willing to risk my child having brain damage, nerve damage or worse by trying out labor for a bit. I have also been told its easier on both mother and baby if there is any risks to not to try labor as the c-section is more difficult if labor has already started, which is why after consideration (and being that my doctor is pretty anti-c-section so there must be reason for concern) I chose to go ahead and plan a c-section despite my personal fears.

My MIL had five kids...three naturally and the last two by c-section. She said that it was a lot less hard on her(and the boys) to have the c-sections because of the circumstances. She also said she really didn't see it as having missed out on having them naturally but as potentially making a dangerous situation better. :)

I've had 2 emergency C-sections. This baby will be arriving by scheduled C-section. The recovery for a C-section is much easier if you have not had labor. My first was after 20 hours of labor and my second was after 3 days of complete bedrest to prevent labor. I was up out of bed as soon as they would let me after both. I didn't have any unusual complications with either. It took about a week for my first to really take to nursing, but that was more of a battle of wills than anything else (he really like the cup feedings). My second was unable to nurse, but he had a litany of problems besides being born by C-section. So all in all, although neither of those births were exactly what I planned, my older son is strong and healthy and my second son is alive, so I really can't complain.

Well, my first one was a great experiance, it was an emergency one, and I had an epidural and was feeling great. You stay in the hospital longer, I stayed in four days and my doctor sent me home with lots of percocet so I was feeling good at home as well.

My second was a planned c-section, and that didn't go as well, though I wouldn't describe it as a horrible experiance at all. My complaints about that one was well first of all it was a different doctor. They put in the foley cathetor BEFORE I was all numbed down there and it was extrememly uncomfortable. I couldn't sit up and down strait for the people putting in my spinal block so they stuck me about three times, which didn't really hurt because they give you some local anestetic first, but they had a hard time, kept telling me to sit up strait, and I didn't say anything and the only thing I could think about was how uncomfortable that cathetor was. So this time I'm going to ask the doctor to order that I have my spinal block before they put the cathetor in (yep, you'll have to have a foley cathetor in). I was having a lot of discomfort right after the opporation and was unable to hold the baby, not to mention that I vomited some during the oporation, it just didn't go as smoothly. They let me out in two days, per my request because I had my daughter Dec. 22cd and wanted to come home christmas eve if not christmas day, and I got my wish, however I think I could've benenfited from staying longer. They took the staples out too early and after I removed the steri strips when they said I could, part of my wound opened up and seaped, but it was major, they just wanted it to close on it's own, and I had a hard time getting out of bed, and the doctor didn't send me home with near as much percocet as my last doctor did so I didn't get to enjoy the comfort it brought for as long, and I needed it more this time then the next. This time I have yet a different doctor because our company switched insurance and I feel like she's pretty good, atleast that was my first impression. So, sorry, describing my second experiance may not have been reassuring to you, but I'll just say don't push yourself to get out of there right away....... and well, I don't know if you want to request to have the cathetor afterwards or not, it may not bother you like it bothered me, I complained about that thing until they had it removed. It takes a little longer to recover, but I really liked it the first time, because there was no hard labor, not too much pain because they keep you well medicated, and you stay there longer to give you a little more time to get on your feet. I think it wasn't until my third day the first time that I could go to the bathroom by myself, without my hubby or nurse to assist me there, because you are pretty uncomfortable with moving around at first, you have this burning just pain where your incision is, just take your time. My husband slept in my room with me a couple nights, and with both , so it was nice. And my in-laws came and stayed at our house taking care of our son, and when we came home with the baby on christmas eve I just bursted into tears because my mil cleaned our bedroom, masterbathroom, bought some decorations for it (which she didn't know it was actually the colors I had wanted) and they had done all kinds of shopping and cleaning elsewhere, so I cried, and she cried, and it was just sweet. Anyways, God Bless. When I was in the hospital with my first I was just so in-love with the baby (and I almost didn't want to leave the hospital because I had such good care), I cried one night and told the nurse it was because I was just so happy. It's a neat experiance. Enjoy your happy time.

I have had my 2 children by C-sections, and will also have my third by a c-section.

My first was an emergency C-section. I was in labour for over 30 hours and not progressing, and the baby was getting stressed, so I was wheeled into the operating room at 3.00am for an emergency C-section. Unfortunately I got an infection in my wound, and had to stay in hospital for 2 weeks. After about 3 weeks I was up and about.

My second was an elective C-section. It was sooooo much easier than the first. The doctor made a time and date and I just turned up and had the operation. I was pretty much up and about after 2 days and I healed quickly.

I am now 20 weeks pregnant and I am going to have this baby via a C-section.

I think you recover much quicker with an elective C-section than an emergency one. That was my experience and the same with some of my friends.

Good luck, I pray everything will go well, and before you know it, you will be holding your little angel.:D

I've had two c-sections, both after long labors with each and failure to progress. I sure wish I could have skipped the labor part. The c-section is quick, you can be awake and see the baby right away. Also your baby won't be bruised by the birth process and will have a cute little round head right away.

Did anyone have any depression after their c-section?

For example if you had invisioned this wonderful natural birth or what-have-you did anyone here feel bad or feel a sense of failure or something (I have heard this can be common in women who have had c-sections)?
