Question # 61

Why is this so ?

There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall building
Every morning he rides the lift, down to the ground floor to leave for work
Every evening, he gets into the lift and can only travel halfway up the building
and must walk the rest of the way..... Unless it is raining [outside]

For 1,000 Blessings, Please tell me

WHY must he walk the rest of the way to his home
when it is not raining outside ?

LOL

Oh Bro Dave I so enjoy wracking my brain
to figure out all the different scenarios and possible answers...
AND guessing --even to the point of appearing silly!

Is the lift operated by water and weight?
Riding down his own weight would carry him...
but unless it's raining, there isn't enough water weight
to carry him all the way up????

Am I to try and guess at what kind of building this would be also?

Clue:
The only reference to water... is, that of "Raining" makes a difference [to him]
insomuch as that when it is raining he can ride the lift all the way to the top :)

The building is significant only
in so far as the guy has his home at the top and hasnt a problem riding down
but cannot ride all the way home, unless it is raining [?????????]

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Why is this so ?

HOW does he manage this ?

Have Fun...don't take these questions too seriously
They are designed to encourage 'associative thinking' ~outside of the box

Ok, I cheated and found this answer...but I don't like it for some reason. (I mean the answer) :D

The man is very, very short and can only reach halfway up the elevator buttons. However, if it is raining then he will have his umbrella with him and can press the higher buttons with it.

Did you feel like,
that, the little guy, should not have a problem with, lift-control access >
or, that it was a Health & Safety 'trade-off'
between;
actual numbers of diminuitive adults
and the 'prevalence' of young children, then having, unguarded access [increased accident likeliness ?]

Now, on a 'lighter' and more cheering 'note'

I do note, and must raise attention of all to this matter
the ALARM BUTTON ....is, always at the bottom of the column \o/
even a child may summon help...well now! that! ...is, forward thinking
:D

Well Done Shirley Sis'

Why is the sky blue?

"A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight."

Congratulations Faith Sis'

Your blessings and a new question will be posted shortly

My answer:
Violet and blue light have short waves
which, are scattered more than red light waves
While red light goes almost straight through the atmosphere
Blue and violet light waves are scattered by the particles in the atmosphere
Thus we see blue sky

Thank you Yvie Sis'

My source: question & answer #7
Everyday Science Questions & Answers - Everyday Science Quiz

Gives me the answer: for, 'boiling point elevation'

Examining other information-sources [so, to be 'fair']
I note, that some 17.C / 33.F rise in boiling temperature
"ARGUABLY" apparently makes no difference, regarding cooking

Being, a 'creature of habit', [habits, instilled by, my Mom]
I still add a teaspoonsful to water, in which I boil potatoes/ rice and pasta
AND!! 17.C is, almost a fifth of 100.C
and so, is not ,an insignificant temperature-rise

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling-point_elevation

I will SQUISH this-question and post another

Because, provision of an answer, will be an opinied one
and I am not into, creating arguments

You may already know this but many foods are paler than they used to be due to increasing demands, a growing industry, and poor living conditions for the livestock. Our egg yolks are not as yellow, our market chickens (flesh and skin) are paler too. Sometimes we go "up north" to the countryside and buy a dozen eggs and a grain-fed chicken from a local farm. The difference is unbelievable! Firstly, it's huge (fattened right up) then, it's sooooo yellow and the meat is sooooo juicy. The eggs yolks are truly yellow and sometimes we get a double-yolk (twins), nice surprise! God only knows what we're really eating most of the time.

So when's the next question?

Yes, if you feed 'chemicals' to livestock, the 'altered' products they supply,
may also confer those chemicals/ altered cells to humans, with all the associated risks
