  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Cannot wait for this movie - it may actually lure me out to the cinema to watch it instead of waiting for the DVD bargain bucket in my local supermarket.

I have every intention to be in the theater the day this opens.
My only worry is that this film won't live up to my expectations. I can still remember being disappointed with the last time a Godzilla film was made in the US.
But this one looks like the director understands the concepts needed to make This type of film great.

Once I got over how different the 1998 movie looked to the vintage Godzilla ones, I quite enjoyed it.

But this trailer looks really really good in that it doesn't give much away, so like you I hope it won't be disappointing.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the '98 film. But I went in expecting Godzilla and instead got, at best, a remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, with more comedy then what, imo, was required.
But the effects were top notch, for the time.

I'm going to be extremely disappointed if this movie turns out to be a tear-jerker, chick flick; as the newer TV commercials are suggesting that it will. It would be a crime to use a Godzilla movie as a platform for schmaltzy romance. I'm not against love stories, I can get into a good love story - they just have no place anywhere near a Godzilla movie.

Godzilla movies are supposed to be monsters fighting, and buildings getting smashed in the process - while the military launches useless, but good looking, attacks on Godzilla.

The anticipation I felt for this movie is quickly fading. I guess I'll wait to see what the professional reviewers say after the movie is released on May 16th.

Wow, there went all of my anticipation.
Sorry, I feel bad for spoiling your anticipation. I assumed all Godzilla fans keep up and want to know what's up.

My anticipation is still high.

Its sort of annoying how many Japanese people are saying "Godzilla looks fat and silly!". To me he looks muscular and by far the scariest version of him yet. And if you look at the Japanese GOdzilla over the years where he dances and does silly things more like a comedy show... its like "Really Japan? Him looking fat is silly?" >.> lol. BTW not a slam toawrds the japanese. Just referring to the irony. Lets not forget Godzilla has thunder thighs in the older movies.

I didn't care about of the characters (or monsters) on screen. Yeah, it looked great but no one had any personality.

Yes, it fell pretty flat. I want to say more but don't want to give away spoilers.

And there is plenty of implausibilities too, ahem the Japanese scientist.

There was plenty of references in it, but the film had the quality of a 15 year olds' fanboi shot on home video edited on his home computer that could been put up on youtube instead. I am not speaking of SPFX and CGI, just the quality of storytelling.

I left the theatre wishing I could have my money back.

Loved the film. I cried when it was announced years ago that the film was int he works and having Gareth Edwards as director. Big fan of "Monsters" and how he did that film justice.
The new Godzilla was as epic as the trailers thankfully and the fact that it had interest human characters was a definite bonus along with the fact kaiju fights could be seen from human perspective.
