  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You guys have convinced me to wait for it to arrive on DISH.

IMO, I could have saved my money.

Alert! do not read the rest of this post if you have not seen the movie.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW! SPOILER ALERT BELOW! SPOILER ALERT BELOW!

The film featured the MUTO more than Godzilla, and then there was that long build up of the MUTO on a rampage with Godzilla in pursuit. Sure it had the Kaiju fight but I felt those monsters should have been killed off by Godzilla midway through the movie. And the rest of the film focusing on "OH NO, TOKYO, ITS GODZILLA!" and planet earth nearly sent into the dark ages.

Also, Godzilla disappears for 60 some years and then just mysteriously materializes to keell some MUTOs. I had wished the film had worked on the government coverup angle more strongly and that Godzilla wasn't necessarily saving the planet, yes, I know that during the Showa era, sometimes Godzilla took on the role of Mothra against cosmic monsters such as Ghidorah and Gigan. But I have heard rumours or was it the film's director himself I am not sure that there may be a sequel featuring Mothra, what then two kaiju saviours of the world? Fighting each other? Unless theres going to be a... Ghidorah?!

Too much build up and not enough delivery of the goods, IMO.

SPOILER ALERT ENDED!!!!!

I finally got the time to go and see this earlier today.
While I loved the film, I have to concede that it was not perfect. Many of the complaints made in previous posts are valid. But, imo, they do not prevent this movie from being the Godzilla film that many fans have been waiting for.
I had no problem with the slow reveal of the Big G. But I was disappointed in the explanation in what, and where, Godzilla and the MUTO's, originated from. I thought it was little more then a higher tech version of the origin story presented in the film, Godzilla Raids Again. The weakest origin story presented in the early Godzilla films.

As for the human characters, none of them really captured my attention. And the combinations of circumstances that allowed Ford Brody to always be at the center of the action strained even movie credibility. To me the film would have been better served if his father had been the central human character, and we got to follow him and Serizawa as they followed Godzilla and the MUTO's accumulating data and assisting the military.

Ok, I finally watched this movie last night on DISH. Therefore I paid five dollars to see it, sitting in my own home on the couch, without having to pay extortionist fees for popcorn and something to drink or shelling out thirty extra dollars for the wife and kids. Only five dollars.

And I still feel like I got jipped.

This movie was so bad. I could invest the time here to list all of its flaws, but it isn't worth it. However one...

There wasn't a single character in the film I felt any empathy for. They were all wooden and formless, to include Godzilla. The entire experience was boring. DISH should have paid me to watch it.

There is a Godzillathon coming on local TV in my area October 4-5. Godzilla movies back to back all weekend long. I can't wait!

I enjoyed Godzilla 2014 in 3D at the theater and will watch it again when it comes out on DVD in October.

I recently got to watch Godzilla after renting it from RedBox...here are a few observations:

1. I wasn't too dissapointed with the lack of monster because I knew the directors previous film, Monsters, (Which, I believe, got him the Godzilla directing job) spent more time on the human characters then on the monsters, giving it more of a JAWS feel to the film then your standard monster movie. While Godzilla and the MUTO's were not on screen as much as people wanted them to be, the times they did get screenplay were goosebump inducing.

2. The story itself felt rushed and the characters were not as developed as they should've been. With that said, you did feel an emotional connection with the characters and even Godzilla himself. In that sense it kept true to the classic Godzilla film series where the human characters felt a connection with the big monster. Some really incredible cinematography really helped accomplish this. I really wish I saw this in theaters, particularly IMAX.
