  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

God's wrath.

Mat 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

There, God asked you to. The son of man, Jesus, asks (nay, commands) you to repent, or ye shall all likewise perish.

Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
No, those are passages from a book thousands of years old that has been translated multiple times. And meaning is lost in translation.

For example:
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

I am now using Babelfish to translate it to Japanese

その時間からイエス・キリストは匍匐性説教し、言い始めた: 天国のために手もとがある。

And now back to English.

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say and Repent: For the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

And suddenly it's Jesus who is repenting.

Yeah, but your argument is flawed because Babelfish is a rubbish translator.

If I was rendering something from French into English, I would be able to maintain 99.9% of the accuracy of meaning even over huge texts because I know both languages really well.

Yes, by all means there are probably some translator errors, but no-where near to the extent you described

True, but when I see some saying that there is no way for meaning to be lost because God ensures it will be perfectly preserved even a garbage translator should work. And the small errors can easily grow into large errors after 2000 years of translations.

And who else thinks this belongs in GA?

Agreed to some extent

Disagreed, because most translations go back to the original source and other supporting documents from the time, so if anything we should be getting more accurate as we discover more documents from the era and therefore improve our understanding of the subtleties of the languages

By the way, your signature cracks me up every time I see it :) Love the point you make through it

Then that is conceded. I'm not a linguist. I know chemistry and biology better than languages.

I'm glad you like it.

Intentional distortion is still possible.

You should know all about intentional distortion!

Oh, moi? No, never! Hah. *snickers* Ah, yes. You amuse me, WallOfFire. But in this instance, translations can be intentionally distorted. Subtle mistranslations can end up as one huge FUBAR in idea. Or, in the case of humans, we could saw what we assume the text means. Which works just as well since most people are of the variety that doesn't look too closely at their own beliefs and doctrines and assumptions.

I'm glad we could play. I've examined mine thoroughly and read what its based on, and I couldn't agree more with every word written, even down to the last unicorn.

Isa 34:5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.
Isa 34:6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.
Isa 34:7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
Isa 34:8 For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion.

I can dig it. I struggled with it for long enough, but its just too obvious that God exists.

yea, just see "The Message" translation, er paraphrase. or something. hardly a translation. its like translating the kjv into ebonics

"check it, do what i do, all my homies be up here in my eternal crib yo"

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
