"Jesus Camp," a documentary feature film that follows evangelical Christian children at a religious summer camp, won prizes and critical praise on the summer festival circuit, but it wasn't until its quiet opening in the Midwest two weeks ago that a news clip about the film hit YouTube.com, inciting a whirlwind of controversy.

Movie Trailer

I'm glad such a movie has been made and is now showing throughout the USA!

Mixed feelings. I have nothing to do with Christianish political agendas. But as a person who was baptized in the Holy Spirit 7 years ago, I don't like to see charismatics made fun of, and that's what will happen.

I see emotional abuse, and that scares me. Be as evangelical as you want, but telling your kids to die for Jesus and that they're in God's army and yelling "This means war?"
Scary. But I agree with the above posters- these kinds of things really do make fun of themselves.

A disgusting waste of childhood.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, it's perfectly reasonable from the standpoint of the indoctrinators. If I believed that the world was morally spiraling out of control, billions of people are eternally hellbound, evil secular humanists are trying to make the world a better place without invoking Jesus, and the end of the world is soon, brainwashing these kids for Christ would be the righteous thing to do.

So what if they're missing out trading collectable cards and squirting milk out of their noses, I would be ensuring their eternal salvation and training a generation of evangelical preachers to save the world. I only say it's disgusting because I think their worldview is wrong.

Are you raising up Christian terrorists or another Hitler Youth Movement?

This is probably the most frustrating and exasperating part of this film for me. This is the conclusion people are coming to when they see the trailer, and I have to say that if I was not a believer in Christ and I saw nothing but the trailer, I would probably come away with the same impression.

There's a clip in the trailer that shows me with my arms raised up and I'm shouting, "This means war!" That came during a prayer time at the end of one of our services where I spoke on the battle we wage against sin and temptation we fight on a daily basis. We had spoken about the challenges of keeping our minds and our hearts pure in a world that throws all kinds of mental and visual trash at us all the time. But out of context it could be taken to mean anything!

Five year-old Christian kids aren't the only people who can get manipulated.

Right, adults can be manipulated but when they are, they are capable to realising it and fighting back.

These kids can not! They are used, nothing more.

This film really bothers me because every Christian that I know, would consider these kids UNDER the age of accountability! Even though the bible doesn't specify what that age is, I believe common-sense should tell us,it certainly is not age 5! How can anyone not feel this is "indoctrination", of these children? To hear the things that come out of their mouths and watch them, gives me the "Willies". There is NO WAY kids this age have the mental capacity to understand the concepts of what they are saying. They are parroting what they have been taught. No different than 5 year old Muslim school children, under radical Islam, being taught to say "I hate the Jews"! :prayer: :prayer: :groupray:
