I hope so brother! I feel so useless now I've gotten older and watch my every move! Im still addicted to opoiates but its doctor managed so I no longer dwell in the circles I used to! I so yearn for God to use me again even if I do continue to obliterate my self !

I used to beg outside tube stations for money! I met all types of people moving them to give me money or just a loving comment. Looking back I feel God was using me to convict people to show me loving kindness etc!
Now I don't live that lifestyle my life has become so mundane
Maybe the critical difference is that you're not out interacting with so many people as you did before. With the background you have you are uniquely prepared to show empathy for those who are down and out, particularly those in similar circumstances as you once were in. Maybe you should get out among them. And whereas before you were convicting others of sin, perhaps now you can share the love of God and have even greater results, since "it is the kindness of God that leads men to repentance".

There are seasons where we need to be out in the wilderness alone, fasting and praying, but in addition to the personal transformation it will always lead to a greater ability to serve. The normal Christian life is far from mundane.

Although I don't believe standing on a corner handing out leaflets does much! I do believe our sufferings is the greatest teacher!

Maybe there's a Helps ministry you could volunteer for, like handing out sandwiches, or a food pantry, or a soup kitchen. That helps people where their immediate needs are, and sometimes that is the doorway.

Early in my youth I was addicted to heroin and crack cocaine! I used to beg outside tube stations for money! I met all types of people moving them to give me money or just a loving comment. Looking back I feel God was using me to convict people to show me loving kindness etc!
Now I don't live that lifestyle my life has become so mundane and I no longer feel God is using me!
I know I have abused and hurt myself emotionally and physically and created lots of mental problems but I feel I was in a better position to be used by God when I was a down and out and a waste of space :) comments :)
Helping other people is the key to your problems.

A lot of people who have been desperately poor or sick or in need,
may recognize a lot more hypocrisy after they are saved (and before?) when they are around so-called "whole" people who claim to be "Christian" ....
It may seem that being down and out let you see more 'good' people instead of the hypocrites.
This is possibly a very common observation.

Finding good teaching will help. "Discipleship" is rare and helpful also. How to deal with all the different things, is not frequently taught as far as I know, not honestly and truthfully in Christ, as you (hopefully ) are fully seeking.
i.e.
the people (Ekklesia) who can help you be a trained disciple-follower of Jesus in Truth
are known to Yahweh (God), so He can connect you if you are willing and seek Him.

I'm not out yet! The damage is done! But I do yearn to be used again! But strange as it sounds I got used more when I sinned and was an example of not what to be! I loved it and miss it!

This is just the monkey that used to be on your back talking in religious jargon. My guess is that you are feeling down and you need to focus on the positive stuff in your life and not look back to the past.

Your sense of self-worth should not be based on whether you feel God is using you or not. It should be based on being a beloved child of God.

I am pretty much clean and sober myself today. That message you have shared there might have been sent to you by the evil one? God wants addicts and alcoholics to be sober.

I have played with fire many times and I know that's true.

This is good advice, Harko.
However, I doubt you were convicting others of sin in those days. Could it be that you accepted everyone like Jesus did? Could it be that you spent time with the "sinners" just like Jesus did?

Do you see what I am getting at?

BlessUp friend.

Do not yearn to go back to 'Egypt' as Israel did when God was leading them to the promised land.
So do not wish to go back to the more sinful lifestyle you once had.
God showed you more visible grace back then, simply God was keeping you alive to get to where you are now. But for the believer, scripture puts in many places the idea of through faith and patience you inherit the promises of God.
So do not tempt the Lord by committing more sins to get more grace.

Interesting... I think that you will enjoy the Story of Homeless Man Angelo by Pastor Rick Joyner.

It is quoted in posts #1, 2, 3 here:
