"Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you."--George Carlin

George had a way of summing things up pretty well, didn't he?

He certainly wasn't talking about the God I know.

The God I know doesn't send people to Hell for breaking any of the Ten Commandments.

If He did, we would all go there.

I like the fact that he laid that at "religion's" door though; as I contend that religion arises when facts in the Bible are misrepresented.

Many believers have a different view of God than you AV.

-_- no they wouldn't. In reality, however humans came to be, is what it is. While we do need evidence in order to support and find whatever the correct answer is, that answer is correct no matter what. Even if we never actually figure it out.

Yes, humans 'came to be', no argument there. If you have aliens creating humans you of course could have aliens creating humans which would think they're a 'you' but really would only be a life form programmed to believe that and are in reality not a 'you'. Alien intelligent designers and only random, mindless, meaningless, purposeless (other than procreation) and directionless naturalistic mechanisms creating the human life form would create such a thing.

The difference would be that in the alien creating a human scenario, they could somehow really create a 'you', but in the atheistic Darwinist creationist scenario, a 'you' doesn't exist, only the illusion of a 'you'. For example, is it 'you' responding to the post or are you simply a life form that aliens created or only naturalistic mechanisms created? Or something else?

Again a flat statement that is a generalization and faulty reasoning.

Dizredux

If you can find a reason other than Godlessness, post it. Out of the plethora of 'main reasons' you possibly have, you should be able to find one that doesn't include Godlessness.

I somehow don't think that applies to Mr. Carlin.

I could be wrong, but I do get the impression he was never a believer.

Therefore, what's your point?

So are you saying that a Christian who has killed someone is more deserving of heaven than an atheist who works to better society?

Indeed. As I understand it, anything goes, as long as you believe.

What 'facts' are those?

Yes.

Ever heard of Moses killing an Egyptian?

Samson killing Philistines?

Both are mentioned in what we call the Hall of Faith (Hebrews 11).

Yet ...

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Entrance into Heaven is based on one thing:

Is your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life?

There's your problem, isn't it?

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It's not about Who you know, it's about Who knows you.
