I'm curious Anthony. . .where does it say it was a sickness and where does it say it was there until his death?
2 Cor. 12:7-10 though I'm not so sure that it is sickness, it could have been sickness, or maybe something else...but for St. Paul, it was a weakness, and it is in his weakness that the power of Christ remained in him...

I have total empathy with what your saying Iddie, but I guess I have a question for you. It's actually two questions. 1) Do you think it's God's will that you remain in pain physically? and 2) Do you pray for your healing? For some christians seeking healing is not a priority. Interested to hear what you think. Peace!!!
Duggie, Yes I think that God is allowing me to go thru this as I said before, For the simple fact that I needed to take a break from 70-80 hours a week. And yes I have prayed for healing, I am waiting for this to happen cause I need to learn patience.

I was familiar with the scripture reference but personally, I believe it was something else and I see no record of it NEVER being taken away.

"God is in control"

I believe it's a phrase to remind us that everything that goes on is according to His will and purpose. He has a plan for our lives and nothing escapes Him. It is a reminder that whatever happens in our lives, He will always be with us, never forsaking us, as in Hebrews 13:6.

We have a lot of Christian "catch phrases" that we toss around without even thinking. While I can list several of them, one of them has some very strong theological implications. The one that I am talking about is the statement "God is in control." I hear Christians, and preachers of almost all theological persuasions make this statement.

If some tragedy comes into a person's life, people attempt to comfort them with the words, "God is in control." If a person is facing trying circumstances, they are told, "Don't worry, God is in control." If a person receives a blessing, they are told, "God is in control."

I am interested in what that statement means to those of you who like to use it. What Scriptures do you see supports this statement? How do you feel that God is in control in spite of the rampant sin, misery, poverty, tragedy, murder, rape, and other heartbreaking things happening in our world today?

Just interested in your thoughts.
I would love to answer this...especially since my log in name is "God is in control"

Psalms 47:1 "He subdues peoples under us, and nations under our feet. 4Hchooses our inheritance for us".

Ruth 4:13 "the Lord enabled her to conceive"

Prov 16:9 "The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps".

1 Sam. 10:9, “Then it happened when he turned his back to leave Samuel, God changed his heart; and all those signs came about on that day.”

Prov. 16:4, "The Lord has made everything for its own purpose, even the wicked for the day of evil."

Who created the universe? Who made John the baptist already born with the HolySpirit? Who knows the time Jesus will return? Who makes a man deaf or dumb?

I prefer to believe this way.

If I were ready to get into a car accident because the enemy wanted it, and I didn't to rebuke him, I would be thrilled that God was in control and caused my car not to crash.

What I am interested in is HOW is God in control when things go contrary to His revealed will and what part of the Bible sufficiently advocates this statement?[/QUOTE said:
I don't think we'll ever be able to understand God's mind and purposes. How can he harden hearts, and yet give some the Holy Spirit at birth. How can He make some rich, some poor, some sick and some healthy, some deaf and some blind.

How can He not forgive people in Hell when they bow before Him and realized their sin? Can you imagine people in Hell saying "God God, I see now and my eyes are open, please save me from this burning fire, please God I am so sorry"..... and God acts as though He never knew them.

I see my husbands life....He was an athiest and one day he said God tugged on his heart and it caused him to have a desire for Him. God did the work, but sometimes he may use people, the Holy Spirit, or even evil to get someones attention...but in the end, He gets all the glory.

The bible supports both views( God is in control, and a responsibility man has to obey), and so I support both views but believe the end result is Gods choice.

Why is God going to end sin/Satan someday if He is not in control. We know how it will end....Satan is locked up and no longer to affect people, so why do we say they are in war if we know that God has a plan when He will lock Satan up? In Heaven, I sure hope we don't have a free will like we think we have here...I don't want to see another satan fall and disrupt Heaven do you?

I'll choose to claim God's promises for healing.

VW...I wouldn't wish suffering on anyone. I hope you wouldn't tell the blind person... that God made....."happy suffering"
For you would be saying that God made a mistake.
Exodus 4:11, "And the Lord said to him, "Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes him dumb or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?"

God Bless you Idie, God never promised us a perfect life without pain or disease. I don't know one apostle that died a nice and peaceful death....all were horrific!!!

I agree that God never promised us a perfect life, however I'm sure we would all agree that in Christ Jesus we are victorious. Walking in good health, peace and prosperity (as in God supplying our needs) are things that I believe God wants for all His children. I completely understand the fact that many believers are persecuted and killed for their faith. I have no answer as to why some christians endure certain hardships whilst others seemingly do not. In regard to the apostles deaths however we must take into consideration the climate of anti-christian feeling and persecution carried out against the church during that time.
I asked Iddie does he pray for healing? not to make a point about his faith or to question why he still goes through pain. I asked because I am someone who is waiting for my healing also and I appreciate the fact that through my waiting I have become more patient, more trusting and more understanding toward those who are going through what I am going through.
God is in control of my life because He has given me control of my life through Christ Jesus. He is guiding my path and leading me according to His will. I walk in faith and completely trust God for my healing regardless to what's happened to other believers. If His word says I am healed I'm healed!!! Peace.

When you say "God supplies our needs" what does that mean to you exactly? Please be specific in what needs you think God will supply for everyone whether or not they live in this wonderful Country or not. Also, when you say "the word says you are healed", please be specific in what you mean by that... and which scripture guarantees physical healing vs spiritual healing to all believers who have faith in Jesus Christ...Peace!

It's pretty much straight forward whatever needs I have, be that food on my table, clothes on my back, roof over my head, money in the bank etc... I give thanks to God in all things be them great or small. God is most definately supplying my families needs. I am not going to be embarrassed or apologize for the fact that I serve a God who does indeed supply my need. :)

Obviously those of us who are fortunate enough to be living in parts of the world that have strong economies, access to basic health care, housing, employment etc... are going to have different needs than those in poorer countries. God is still meeting the needs of even the most poorest people. Through Christian Aid, Oxfam, countries who have given billions of pounds/dollars to help those in real need.

Also, when you say "the word says you are healed", please be specific in what you mean by that...
Psalm 107:19-20, Isaiah 53:5(physical/spiritual depending upon how you wish to intepret) Acts 14:9, James 5:16. There are so many to choose from.

and which scripture guarantees physical healing vs spiritual healing to all believers who have faith in Jesus Christ...Peace!
See above!! As somebody that has suffered with a severe illness for approx 4 years it would be so easy for me to say "well God is in control and hopefully some day I'll get through this." Although there's nothing wrong with those sentiments per se. I'm more inclined to read God's word and apply those scriptures that relate to healing to my life. I refuse to let sickness reign in my body. Do you think there is something wrong with that? There are so many scriptures that deal with keep asking and seeking, if you believe you will recieve etc... (Mark 9:23 illustrates this point beautifully)

Godisincontrol let me leave you with a verse that has greatly blessed and enriched my life. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 1John 5:14-15 Peace!!! :)

But would you also agree that there are non christians who are wealthy and healthy, yet there are believers (with strong faith in Jesus) who aren't blessed to live in America who feel blessed to have one meal a day and one pair of clothes a week? And, what if you were forced to move to another country such as Africa and you didn't have a dime, would you think you were all of the sudden cursed, or would you still be thankful that you had salvation. I mean don't get me wrong. I thank God for giving me a home, clothes and food to eat anytime I want, but I never want to think of this as my security, because it could all change at anytime.

If you and your significant other lost your jobs and you had to become homeless, yet there was a shelter and food to feed your stomach, would you still praise God for that because your needs were being met?

Well, you are going to die right? And, you are most likely going to die of heart disease from an old body breaking down and getting "sick" as we speak. Right now with every heart beat, your heart is wearing down. And, cardiac disease could be setting in...but.... over time very slowly. So, unless you live in your earthly body forever, some "sickness" is occuring right now within you that will eventually cause death. I do believe God can prolong your life, or not though.

I too love this verse because if it is not in His will, He will not hear us, but if it is, He will. This verse reassures me that I can go to Him with anything, but I may not get everything....and that's okay...He knows what is best:)

Philippians 4:19 ~ But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 53:5 ~ But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we ARE HEALED.

1st Peter 2:24 ~ Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye WERE HEALED.

Philippians 4:8 ~ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I'm sure that most of us Christians who know the Word, and the promises of our Lord, do not sit around and think about how our hearts are breaking down, LOL.

Psalms 91:16 ~ WITH LONG LIFE will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
