  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“Shot down on Good Friday, hidden in a cave, a crevice, all of Saturday and rescued on Sunday,” Hegseth said.

The three words downed airmen told rescuers that left them fearing they were headed into Iranian trap

“Flown out of Iran as the sun was rising on Easter Sunday. A pilot reborn. All home and accounted for, a nation rejoicing. God is good,” he added.

The US hailed the rescue efforts and commended the weapons officer, who was able to climb more than 1.3 miles and avoid detection by nearby Iranian fighters spurred by the chance to capture an American soldier and the $60,000 bounty placed on his head, the New York Times reported.

The colonel and his pilot, who was rescued just hours after their F-15E jet was shot down on Friday, are both in stable condition, Trump told reporters on Monday.

“They are both recovering very well. They were both injured, and they’re doing well,” he said.

Every other president would have done the same. I am grateful that he did so. I feel so much sympathy for the mililtary who are tied to enlistments having to serve under a Secretary of War and president whom I am sure they find it almost impossible to respect. The Archbishop of the Armed Forces urged military members to refuse to follow unjust orders, softening it by saying he realized they probably unable to do so, and they should just strive to "do as little harm as humanly possible."

I guess he called the rescue because he recognized he needed a tiny bit of positive publicity amidst all the well-earned criticism from Pope Leo, all the NATO countries, and most of the free world.

I am still serving in the US military and have served since 1993. The vast majority of servicemen whom I know have FAR MORE respect for President Trump and Secretary Hegseth than we have had for previous Presidents and previous Secretaries of Defense.

That is THE MOST wrong and MOST incorrect post that I have seen on these forums in a long, long time. Is there any more hateful things that you wish to say about my fellow servicemembers in the US military?

How does one tell?
Do people actively invoke his name into conversation?

I suppose we see differently. I too am still serving, having entered in 1989. I am currently close to the conflict and have encountered less than enthusiastic support for the special military operation.
And by close, I mean the prefab Iranian ballistic missile bunker close.

What a blatantly disrespectful thing to say about people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for you.

Hegseth compared the capture and rescue of the pilot to the resurrection of Jesus.

....just another blasphemous day at the Trump WH.

It's funny that even as an atheist this makes me uncomfortable. :)

I can honour them for their sacrifice and still call them out on misanthropic behaviour.

Yes, their sacrifice enables you to freely denigrate them. I tend to make a more thankful approach toward anyone who chooses to enlist in the military, but to each his own, I suppose.

What makes you think I'm not grateful? BEcause I would be calling about misanthropic behaviour?

Listen guys. IF you are finding what I'm saying offensive, just pretend I'm Donald Trump talking about John McCain. Trump supporters seemed okay with that.

Your original comment seems to imply you believe people enlist in the military because they have a "bully bone". That sure sounds disrespectful and ungrateful to me. But since you were just giving a knee-jerk reaction to why anyone in the military would show any respect to the current administration, I guess the broad brush was the best approach.

Now you've elevated your disrespect even further. You're calling people in the military "misanthropic". Do you know what that means? It means they hate humankind.

Tell me again how "grateful" you are for the "bullies" that "hate humankind".
