Sunday morning, I listened as a pastor told the congregation that in heaven, he believes more than anything else, everyone is going to sit around the throne of God as he teaches us from the ENGLISH KING JAMES BIBLE. Because after all it is the "ONLY inspired word of God".

I could not believe it.

So, do you think in heaven, we are all really going to speak in old english?

For those of you who are KJVO, are not the original Greek and Hebrew translations of the bible inspired? Why or why not???

I am really, really confused.

KJV is actually written in Modern English. Old English is like Beowulf. Although, even for a KJVOist, that's a pretty crazy thing to have with the highest degree of confidence. Forget about all the core doctrines (risen Saviour? Meh.). Just so long as the KJV is the correct version (tm). I can't say for the general case, but in my experience, most KJVOists still take the resurrection of Christ to be their foundation of faith.

That may be up there with the other dumbest things I here. I would run out the door if I heard someone say such a stupid thing and besides what makes you think that there will be a need to speak.

I WISH ...

I'm still under my parents' roof and I am forced to attend this church... every service, no exeptions.

I agree with the others. . . . RUN.

First call him and tell him why you are leaving though. Maybe some honest criticism of his teaching will make him have a talk with God. Then God can straighten him out.

Agreed. But only talk to him if you feel comfortable doing so. If he's not the sort who appears to take constructive criticism well, you might do better to send him a letter or something.

Are you going to away to college when you graduate? That would give you more freedom.
If I live to graduate, I will go to College lol. College is very high on my list of priorities. Unfortunatly, it doesn't go over very well with my parents and I KNOW everyone in their church gossips about it...
They all think that the only "righteous" thing for a woman to do is get married and start popping out all the kids she possibly can.
Interestingly enough, two weeks after the pastor found out that a "backslidden female" attending his church wanted to pursue a career and go to a College, he preached a sermon on what the role of women in our society should be... AND how higher education at anything other than a KJV bible college, corrupts our minds. It was hilarious once I got over the stupidity of it.

Erm.. No. I don't think so. This "pastor" is proud and stuborn, NOBODY can make him change his mind about ANYTHING....EVER.
He doesn't care if I show up at church or not. I'm not even a member there anyways. His wife REALLY dislikes me as well, so I can only imagine what he thinks of me.

I fully intend on finding a church to go to when I move out. I get "excited" when I imagine how it will be to start attending a church that I will enjoy, and I think about how nice it will be to fellowship with Christlike people, and have a pastor who isn't a jerk (sorry for being so blunt).

I think it is amazing you have come through this with your faith sound and strong. :amen:

It is great that you listen to the Holy Spirit and believe the word, and not people.

What makes him think we will need a copy of the bible in heaven anyway. There may be things to learn, I know there will be things to do. But I think God will have greater theings to tell us, and scripture tells us we will be made Christ-like. Not to mention we will have all the greats of the bible to tell us the stories first hand, without the "thee's " and "thou's". No, I don't think this bible will hold much mystery for us, we will just rejoice in truth and goodness.:D

I'd send my pastor a note that I do honestly believe God and Jesus who sits at the right hand of the Father fluently speak and hear all languages.

Remember this peacechild, your pastor is not your master, is he?

You are a follower of Christ. Did your pastor die for you?

Keep your peace child, you will find a church you love in The Lord's timing.

Oh, and I am NIV only at the moment! It's a beautiful version, very eloquent! But, then I have spoken in tongues too, so I'm quite sure God has got us all covered.

Praise the Lord!

:amen:

Im not sure why a pastor would ever think that GOD needs a bible to teach us. If the KJV is the only God inspired version... as he so cliams, I would think GOD would be better than God inspired any day!

Of course your reaction shows that you already know this, if you are forced to go to church with your parents than go, but read the bible while you are there instead of listening to the pastor. God will not let is faithful children be lead astray, stay strong in your faith, and when you leave you will be a stronger christian due to your pastors pride and false leadership.

A teachers burden... not somthing i would want, pray for your pastor.

It blows my mind to hear statements like the KJV is the only inspired version - what the heck was Jesus reading from then? :p

Also how about people who cannot speak a word of English - are they excluded from coming to the full knowledge of the truth - or does God just love English speaking people who can easily grasp KJV english better than everyone else?

The pastor is so hypocritical and ignorant. He thinks that idealy people ought to learn english if they want to get saved.
:preach: "There is no other book in the world like the ENGLISH KING JAMES BIBLE. It is totally a 100% error proof, sacred, holy, inspired, infallible word of God. God will not except any other in it's place. I do not doubt it. God's word does not pass away! This precious book you hold in your hands will last forever and ever and ever! In heaven, all of God's true KJV believers are going to sit around the throne of God as he teaches us from THE ENGLISH KING JAMES BIBLE, I believe this more than anything else. I have absolutly no doubt about it.
...and shame, shame, SHAME on any of you who put this holy living word of God on the floor or underneath other books!" He says.

He also thinks it's possible to translate the KJV word for word into another language, so that even though it isn't inspired, they can read it until they learn english and truely become saved with their eyes opened by the english KJB.
It's not possible to translate like that, and even if it were, it would be completely incomprehensible since foreign languages have totally different sentence structures, plus there are some words in the english language (especially old english) that there is no translation for in other languages. This I know, because I speak three languages and have done a small amount of translation work myself.

yeah I've heard that argument before, but anyone who tries to say that obviously has no experience whatsoever with any foreign language

Its a complete contradiction though, either the KJV is the only Bible God has authorized as the one true Bible to which all true believers must hold to, or its not. And if it is then why bother translating it to begin with? Why give them something that is somehow less than truth? Why not force all would be converts to learn KJV English first so we know they're worthy of the truth to begin with? :p
