alright, im new, so give me a break if i put this in the wrong thread.... but i have a friend who is not a christian, i have known her for 10 years now... and for some reason she has gone violently anti absolute truth, anti moral positions, and has been flirting with eastern mysticism, she started with yoga and meditation, not the healthy type, and went completely crazy from there.... im worried about her because there's still a chance of her becoming a christian because she has begun coming to a bible study with me.... but she has an english teacher who is so incredibly and violently liberal insofar as morals and is so anti christian that it is fundamentally disturbing because i think she is trying to brainwash these kids, she is advocating ayn rand, and they are planning on reading nietzsche i believe..... talking to her tonight, she said she only lets what she wants to be to influence her... and continued with her deciding her own fate, and my response to that was that her decisions will only lead to worse things, but she thinks since god is in her she can make the decision.... there's two possibilities with that, one is that she subscribes to the belief that god is universal, or that she thinks that christians dont make mistakes...

**Note** please only reply if you have any suggestion as to what i can say to her.... also i am a conservative presbyterian from a PCA church, so

I guess that you would have to define what Eastern Mysticism means to you. Many Christians meditate and practice yoga so you have to specify a little bit more. Also, this thread that you posted in is an area to defend the Christian faith. You might get better responses elsewhere on this site but i'm not sure. You also have to define morality a little bit more specifically because some things that I think are moral, you may not. Just for clarification to see if you can be directed to the right area.

With metta,

gaijin.

I don't think God gives a hoot if one is liberal or conservative, but what do you mean "anti-moral".

I don't reckon there is much you can do, armoth. But it really depends on the specific problem, which I still can't understand. Why don't you tell us the reasons why you think yoga, meditation, Ayn Rand, and Nietzsche are unhealthy to her and what worse things you are afraid of?

i think that he sees these things as dissention from christ. they may not automatically be, IMO, but they can be.

If so, then he will need to tell why he thinks dissention from Christ is a bad thing and why he figures those things are a dissention from Christ.

Great! Sounds like me.

she started with yoga and meditation, not the healthy type, and went completely crazy from there....

That's awesome! I'm very glad.

im worried about her because there's still a chance of her becoming a christian because she has begun coming to a bible study with me....

Well, I dunno, once people have caught a nasty case of sanity, sometimes there's no going back.

but she has an english teacher who is so incredibly and violently liberal insofar as morals and is so anti christian that it is fundamentally disturbing because i think she is trying to brainwash these kids,

Is she FRENCH?

she is advocating ayn rand,

Okay, well, anyone who advocates Ayn Rand needs a swift kick to the face. That right-wing craziness can more or less go away, please.

and they are planning on reading nietzsche i believe.....

Great! That'll sort her out. Nietzsche's great.

talking to her tonight, she said she only lets what she wants to be to influence her... and continued with her deciding her own fate, and my response to that was that her decisions will only lead to worse things, but she thinks since god is in her she can make the decision.... there's two possibilities with that, one is that she subscribes to the belief that god is universal, or that she thinks that christians dont make mistakes...

Invite her to these forums. She sounds awesome.

Perhaps she's not going down the crazy path but instead, straying from "normality" to the point where your subjective view dictates her as going down the wrong path.

I think you should be open-minded about the whole ordeal and have good conversations and debate with your friend. Remind her that anti-anything is unhealthy and that she should perhaps tone it down.

People have the tendancy, when presented with new insights, to apply them to their life overexcessively, only to eventually find a more reasonable middle ground.

Other than that, just keep doing what you're doing.
