No, it's not "rather than", it's in conjunction with.

The reason I mention it is because other Christians have had different views on lying. Even Luther reportedly said that the Christian god isn't against some lies.

I'll take my view on lying from what the Bible says about it over other Christians or Luther.

Lying is always based in fear, no matter the reason for doing it. God doesn't give a spirit of fear.
