  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Again, why does it matter what Einstein's religious beliefs were?

Those beliefs don't automatically become true just because Einstein had them.
No, but if the OP is going to make that claim I'd at least like it to say what Einstein actually believed .

Ha. So now you distance yourself from Einstein.

Are you for real? Do you really think Science works like religion, where you have "authority figures" whose word holds weight by virtue of their speaker? Einstein did not accept quantum mechanics, so I suppose we should just stop investigating the field on his whim? Your contention is false, but I don't even see the need to address it for it is entirely irrelevant.

The real problem is an academic one. An honest person would use quotes from materials that they have actually read and feel confident that the quote is being used appropriately. Is that the case with the quotes you use? I highly doubt it. That is because creationists aren't honest.

"Quote mining(TM)" is a fictitious sin. You'd never find more than a couple of situations in which quoting out of context would invert the original meaning of a piece of writing
I've seen dozens of cases in which creationists, by quoting out of context, lie. Just brazenly lie. I think that's a sin. Don't you?

Asking someone to prove a negative? That is desperate as it gets.
No one asks Einstein to prove there are spirits and an intelligent force behind this universe! Yet the quotes already cited prove he did feel there was.

Well, wiccanchild claimed Einstein was in his camp. Obviously not.

'Works' for who??! The authority for Christians is God and His word. It doesn't get any better of higher than that!

Since the OP was attacked, I simply cleared up the issue of whether Einstein believed in more than the physical.

Einstein did not accept quantum mechanics, so I suppose we should just stop investigating the field on his whim?

You can investigate till you turn blue. Not on my dime please. The strangeness associated with the QM would seem to indicate to me that more than earth (fishbowl) laws are at play!

As a newbie you can forgive me if I misinterpret this guy...

Any serious field of knowledge that places such emphasis on word of authority rather than actual reasoning and evidence is to be taken with a gallon of salt.

You can investigate till you turn blue. Not on my dime please.

Not the point; Einstein is not an authority figure. And you do realize that many of these scientific discoveries merit credit for your sitting next to a computer screen as you read this, do you?

The strangeness associated with the QM would seem to indicate to me that more than earth (fishbowl) laws are at play!

Too bad experimentation quickly disproved the newest God of the Gaps proposal; QM is deterministic/probabilistic; no room for god.

There is no serious field that doesn't. So called sciences are dime a dozen fables.

Who said he was? Don't try to pin it on me.

I realize that the so called science worshipers try to hide under the dress of real science and knowledge..as if their foolish fables were part of it. No. We must separate the men from the boys.

Too bad experimentation quickly disproved the newest God of the Gaps proposal; QM is deterministic/probabilistic; no room for god.

You seem to be making out that you are saying something. Newsflash: there is nothing but room for God in QM.

Not even Einstein can give you the proof for gods you lack.

I am not looking for 'proofs'

When I was a child, I did have an interest in childish things....then I read so many fulfilled prophesies and etc...that such proofs are no more needed than pablum.

But why don't you give in and listen to what science is telling you?

Are you ever going to trade in your Bible for a clipboard?

I try to listen when they advise safe ways to build a bridge. I just realize that any bridges they can build do not cross over to Eden, or span eternity. I try to give the poor little puffed up blowfish as much credit as they deserve.

You gotta be careful there too, bro.

The scientists at L'Aquila advised it was safe to go back home.

And some 300 people died.

Good point. Even in their strong suits, they are to be taken with some strong measure of caution. Cursed is man that trusteth in man.

Funny you would mention childish: "The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish." - in a letter from Albert Einstein to Eric Gutkind from Princeton in January 1954

Doesn't matter. Einstein may have used a small g in god, but a belief in spirits comes across loud and clear with him.

No it doesn't. But while we're here, is there anyone else that doesn't believe that the Christian God is anything more than a character in a book that you would like to quote in support for your beliefs?
