Has anyone played shogi?

I know how the pieces move, and some opening sequence, but can't see very far ahead, and always forget about paradroppping. The first time I played was with a japanese master. He gave me a tremendous handicap - nothing except the King, Gold and Silver generals, and pawns. It was vey ugly for me...

I have just started playing go and have played 3 9*9 and one 13*13 game
against a slightly more experienced friend. It was good fun to play a mental
game without the pressure to meet a certain standard of play that I feel when I
play chess. It strikes me as an excellent game, and it would be fascinating to
really get into it and plumb some of its depths.
