  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Global Warming: Heads I win, tails you lose

Doesn't really change the difference between sea ice and land ice.

Doesn't really change the dynamics of fresh and salt water mixing in the Southern Ocean.

Doesn't really change ozone-depletion stratospheric cooling.

(Sorry, I have a fantasy that if I keep repeating FACTS AND DATA it will make a difference. Silly me.)

And you consider this "truth" based on your lack of knowledge in the area?

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

That's because the denialists are relentless in their lack of truth.
If it's too cold, it's due to global warming. Heads I win, tails you lose.

I love this part:

"the extreme cold being experienced by much of the United States as we speak is a pattern that we can expect to see with increasing frequency as global warming continues,”
:D:D:D

Of course you do!

You know what I find fascinating! FASCINATING! is that I've taught earth science at various universities and I've met people who come to the topic with no understanding of it, but when you teach them they don't MAINTAIN their ignorance of the topic AND FURTHER REJOICE in their ability to learn the topic in detail.

Back in my day people took pride in LEARNING.

I wish we were back in those days.

Nowadays we have people who not only DESPISE education and learning but they go so far as to make fun of learning and knowledge.

Mach has apparently never heard of the GULF STREAM. Most of us learned about this in elementary school.

If Mach actually had ever seen a GLOBE he might realize how far north Europe is. And if he actually had taken some classes in elementary school he might know that Western Europe is actually warmer than one would expect for a group of countries that far north on a western coast of a continent.

Most of us learned that they are warmer because of the GULF STREAM which pumps a lot of energy into the northern hemisphere from the warm tropics.

But the Gulf Stream has shut down in the past pre-history. When that happens western Europe gets cold again.

Interestingly thanks to the work over the past CENTURY or so by oceanographers we know how ocean water mixes.

Right now the Greenland Ice sheets are MELTING dumping a lot of fresh water into the North Atlantic right in the area of the Gulf Stream.

Now the globe only needed to warm by less than 3 degrees GLOBAL AVERAGE to have this happen.

That 3 degrees average won't mean much to make Europe a lot hotter but if it melts the Greenland Ice Sheet sufficiently the mixing of fresh and salt water and their density differences may very well shut down the Gulf Stream or re-organize it.

Interestingly at that point Western Europe will get colder. (this despite the global average temperature increase of less than 3degrees)

There's MORE energy from the Gulf Stream than just that 3 degrees global average temperature increase.

So a modest GLOBAL AVERAGE increase in temperature can lead to a SIGNIFICANT COOLING IN A PARTICULAR LOCAL REGION.

Mach won't look at this because it's science but Wally Broecker wrote about this a few years ago as a possibility as well as describing past "THC reorganizations" for anyone who is actually interested in REAL science here it is:

Now it's local warming instead of global warming?

I love posting science in direct opposition to what you say. It's a true joy in my life.

Because for every bit of DATA I post it makes your "gif-laden" simple sentences seem so meaningless to those who can read and who have made it past junior high math and science classes.

Global warming has frozen Niagara Falls? ;)

I will say again, relying on short term weather patterns to determine whether climate change is real or not, is absurd and completely void of any intellect of how meaningless short term weather patterns are to climate change.

Two years ago, we had 5 straight 80+ degree days in the Chicago area in March, which was an absolutely insane weather pattern, much more off the charts and record breaking, than the recent cold spell.

BHSMTE, note how the WARMING stories are never trumpeted by our "skeptic" friends.

The sad part is they don't even come close to understand how silly their approach at CHERRY PICKING makes their position.

Couple that with the fact that no one with even a MODICUM of science thinks that any one given weather pattern (warm OR cold) in any one place means jack to this debate.

The reason I like to respond to this silliness is in hopes that this sort of anti-science ignorance won't spread to others.

Clearly NHE and Mach have not even an inkling of basic science let alone how graphs or data works, so they are like it says in Proverbs 26:11

(The Bible really does help us understand people sometimes! Words of wisdom. If only wisdom were "valued" anymore.)
