  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Either prove it or cease and desist with the accusation. It's really bad form on this forum.

And here's ANOTHER example of your usual dishonest posting behavior to go with the others in the earlier post:

Glad to see you agree.

And the other poster responded:

I don't. You need to work on this whole "reading" thing ;)

Wow. What is your Percentage of HONEST posts? Seems pretty easy to find cases where you play the same card over and over and over again.

Is it really my dishonesty when the other poster posts the opposite of what they actually mean?

If mere agreement with what is posted is dishonest, then how does one rate sarcasm on that same scale?

But how come they never said all this and just "we got stuck in our own experiment"?

That's not the only thing he said in the statement. He also posted that blog entry where he explains how the ice formed around them. I included that in a post a few pages back.

The problem with ocean temperature is that ocean temperature is not uniform. There is a lot of ocean and very few temperature sensors. One metric commonly seen is sea surface temperatures, but even that is inconsistent because ocean turn-over can skew the surface temperatures for many years.

Global warming research expedition cancelled due to too much ice.

You just can't make this stuff up

Looks like attempts to free the ship have been abandoned ... and all passengers have been airlifted off the stranded ship.

One wonders if the penguins are mocking the researchers.

Helicopter rescue mission to Akademik Shokalaskiy has taken all passengers to safety on Aurora Australis | News.com.au
Passengers were flown to the Australian ship in groups of 12 by a helicopter from a Chinese icebreaker.

The Akademik Shokalsky has been stuck in ice since December 24 100 nautical miles east of the French base Dumont d'Urville, with several icebreaking attempts failing to reach it.

Don't worry...they won't for long.

Scientists believe that half of the population of penguins in the Antarctic region has been depleted in the last 50 years due to the climate change.(HERE)

The loss of sea ice is linked to Emperor penguin population declines at the warmer northern regions of Antarctica:

Emperor colonies are declining.
The Emperor colony at Terre Adélie in East Antarctica—featured in the Academy Award-winning French documentary, March of the Penguins3—plummeted by more than 50% in the late 1970s during a warm period with little sea ice cover, when adults died en masse.4 Because the sea ice continues to disintegrate, and the prolonged blizzards cause ongoing chick mortality,4 the colony has yet to recover.

On the fast-warming Antarctic Peninsula, another Emperor colony has declined from 250 pairs to 10 pairs since 1960, due to the rapid loss of the sea ice.5(HERE)

Curiously, most studies have indicated penguin populations increase in warmer weather.
http://www.nature.com/srep/2013/130822/srep02472/full/srep02472.html
Penguins are an important seabird species in Antarctica and are sensitive to climate and environmental changes. Previous studies indicated that penguin populations increased when the climate became warmer and decreased when it became colder in the maritime Antarctic.
This recent study indicates the Emporer Penguins are doing quite well, population-wise.
http://www.livescience.com/19677-emperor-penguin-numbers-double-previous-estimates-satellites-show.html
Fretwell said that in contrast to previous estimates, which put emperor penguin numbers somewhere between 270,000 and 350,000 birds, the new research counted 595,000 birds.

Let's take a look at the entire abstract. I'll highlight the parts I like too.

Penguins are an important seabird species in Antarctica and are sensitive to climate and environmental changes. Previous studies indicated that penguin populations increased when the climate became warmer and decreased when it became colder in the maritime Antarctic. Here we determined organic markers in a sediment profile collected at Cape Bird, Ross Island, high Antarctic, and reconstructed the history of Adélie penguin colonies at this location over the past 700 years. The region transformed from a seal to a penguin habitat when the Little Ice Age (LIA; 1500–1800 AD) began. Penguins then became the dominant species. Penguin populations were the highest during ca. 1490 to 1670 AD, a cold period, which is contrary to previous results in other regions much farther north. Different responses to climate change may occur at low latitudes and high latitudes in the Antarctic, even if for same species.
Looks kinda like this study found that some of the penguins actually are NEGATIVELY impacted by warming....as opposed to earlier studies.

And since this is SCIENCE and defies oversimplification the authors are hypothesizing a role of latitude in it.

Funny what happens when one cherry picks isn't it?

Kinda funny how science is full of ambiguities.

It's as if truth has no agenda. ;)

I like it that you say that. Considering how grossly "agendra" driven almost all your posts on global warming are.

You blithely bypass science and math and then cherry pick your favorite sentence from an abstract which really doesn't support your contention overall.

So, bravo for irony-blasting so early in the day!

Contradicting your posts hardly makes my posts agenda driven.

Pointing out contradictions in the data is highly scientific. :D

But I'm not talking about that...I'm talking about the THREADS you start in which you crow about this or that event last week or this month. That is why I have to CONTINUALLY remind you that one data point on a graph doesn't make a real difference.

I'll be impressed by your scientific insight the minute it becomes clear you even understand what a graph of data actually is.

Your own agenda driven posting is noted.

My agenda is driven by DATA AND SCIENCE.

Remember, I'm not the one who CONTINUALLY mischaracterizes other people's posts to make it sound like they agree with me.

That would be YOU. I wonder why that is. Could it be that you can't get anyone to actually "buy" your non-science on its merits?

Hmmmmm.

I didn't start this thread ... and this thread isn't about me.

Look, NHE, I'm glad you're an atheist like me, but please, give it a break a bit. You seem to be taking it a bit too far by becoming ANTI-theist.

Remember there are actually people out there who are truly Christians who get a lot of value out of their religion.

If you want to lampoon them you might want to dial it back a bit.

Like you I'm an atheist, but I don't really think this behavior of being anti-theist is helpful.

Hope you understand.
