  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have the feeling that even after reading the definitions you still don't know what they mean. So I will make an analogy for you:

Weather: going into a casino for two hours and winning.
Climate: playing everyday for an entire year in a casino and averaging a loss.

You missed the relevant parts. I highlighted them for you.

Here's what we're talking about:

Basic Information

Actually useless information.

I have the feeling that even after see the evidence with your own see you still don't know what it mean. So I will give you an analogy:

The Emperor's New Clothes

Everyone said, loud enough for the others to hear: "Look at the Emperor's new clothes. They're beautiful!"

"What a marvellous train!"
"And the colors! The colors of that beautiful fabric!

I have never seen anything like it in my life!"

They all tried to conceal their disappointment at not being able to see the clothes,

and since nobody was willing to admit his own stupidity and incompetence,

they all behaved as the two scoundrels had predicted.

A child, however, who had no important job and could only see things as his eyes showed them to him, went up to the carriage.

"The Emperor is naked," he said.

"Fool!" his father reprimanded, running after him.

"Don't talk nonsense!"

He grabbed his child and took him away.

But the boy's remark, which had been heard by the bystanders,

was repeated over and over again until everyone cried:

"The boy is right! The Emperor is naked! It's true!"

The Emperor realized that the people were right but could not admit to that.

He though it better to continue the procession under the illusion that anyone who couldn't see his clothes was either stupid or incompetent.

And he stood stiffly on his carriage, while behind him a page held his imaginary mantle.

Your analogy does not mean a thing. Climate is not weather. One hour of light rain does not erase years of drought.

Therefore, pointing to a short period of freezing weather in no way defines the climate.

Do actually believe there could be such a thing as a voting precinct around Philly in which Romney and Ryan don't get a single vote??

Being a resident of Philadelphia, I certainly do believe it. It's a city that leans heavily Democrat to begin with regardless of pretty much any population subset within the city. Add in the fact that there's areas of the city that are made up almost entirely of poor minorities, who lean very heavily Democrat, the fact that there was next to no effort by the republicans to get votes in the city*, and the fact that many precincts are fairly small, yes, you would expect some to vote 100% for Obama.

After the election, local papers looked up the voter registration of people in a few of those precincts and found only a handful of registered republicans on the rolls (like less than a dozen). They went to talk to each of them and they had all either moved away or no longer considered themselves republican but hadn't changed their party affiliation.

Heck even my voting precinct, which has a larger concentration of republicans than most of the rest of the city voted overwhelmingly Democrat. I forgot the specifics but it was something in the neighborhood of 80%.

*Seriously, outside of a TV ads aimed at the suburbs (which were almost entirely for state and congressional representatives) and random "Romney" placard in a window here and there, the only pro-republican ads I recall seeing was one billboard on the highway that said "Obama supports gay marriage. Do You? Vote republican"

You and I are here for a very short time. The earth is likewise here for a very short time. Let's be blunt. The whole question of global warming is a moral/religious question. Speakingly scientifically, I don't give a flip about this little blue dot called earth. I can't come up with any rational reason to care. I didn't know my great-great grandparents, and I'll probably never know my great-great grandchildren.

Even if everything you think about global warming is true, if you want to convince me that I should care about posterity, we need to move this thread to the Morality or Philosophy forum.

Again, I don't care about General Motors or Toyota Corp. or about this earth, unless you can give me a reason to care, which reason will necessarily be moral and/or religious.

It's sad how when you realized you were wrong, all of the sudden it's sour grapes.

The water in a bay in the island of Lovund, Norway froze so fast that it killed thousands of fish instantly.

Hold the phone! A body of water, in Norway, only miles from the Arctic Circle, in January - froze? That's it, Global Warming is a hoax.
