Raising voice =/= screaming. Beck's voice got shrill, something completely unexpected from a figurehead IMO. Raising your voice is justified in special cases, but those cases are very special. In fact, this is the only time I've seen anyone of any repute act this way.

Re Barry Goldwater: That depends on what you're moderating. If you're moderating your views, I agree - RINOs are poisonous to conservatism. If you're moderating discourse, I do not agree - that episode is only likely to polarize further. I'm tired of the polarization; I want civil discussion between honest folks.

Of course, if someone's being dishonest a harsh rebuke may be necessary, but even this must be restrained so the other side (or even your own side) doesn't pass you off as a lunatic. It should be obvious that you're respectable despite your anger.

And I'm not arguing against passion, but passion must be restrained for the sake of civility. I've had my own flare-ups online, but (I think) I've managed to express both anger and civility in my posts. Ideally a speaker would bite his tongue enough to do the same.

No, I can conclude that they're lying, because they say, "We see", and yet they're still blind. That's tantamount to lying.

If they can't see what people are saying, while asserting they know what people are saying: they're lying.
I would be very surprised if you understand the liberal arguments, given how you regard this angry, misinformed, obnoxious liberal. Beck would have to dissect her argument more before I'd believe she was lying. Plus he never accused her of lying, just of being an idiot.

He's continued to be rational.
Yes, he retained his capacity for logic but repelled those we want to hear it - liberals and soft-core conservatives. If his show is addressed to hard-core conservatives, I say he's wasting his time preaching to the choir.

She's lying about him, getting him in hot water with the FCC, and not getting anywhere in her thinking process. She deserved what she got.
Hot water with the FCC? Huh? But yes, she was quite thick-headed, although he didn't set the standard for ethics very well from the start. But I think she's just daft, and needs to be refuted by someone she'd actually listen to. She might not accept the truth at first, but hopefully it will eventually sink in.

Plus, if this woman is just a liberal troll who wanted to cause problems for Beck as you seem to think, I think it worked...

A very reasonable post.

I have a very close friend who is an uber-liberal. He also has a hot temper and sees nothing wrong with cursing and being disrespectful in discussions about the "Right."
I have chastised him for this countless times.

This whole criticism is for anyone that it applies to.
I want to be clear about that.

Civility, as referenced in this quoted post, is key.
