  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My mom wore glasses for about 60 years and finally had Lasik, and now, no more glasses. I'd only ever known her with glasses 24/7 my whole life, so it's still a little weird for me, lol.

I was born with astigmatism, a lazy eye, and generally very weak eye muscles. I suffered through several terrifying surgeries as a child, but now you can hardly tell anything was ever wrong with my eyes. My vision does get blurry if my eyes are tired, and bright light really hurts, but overall I'm fine. Like Miles, I need sunglasses anytime I'm outside or driving because my eyes just can't handle bright light, even on a cloudy day. I've heard that people with light-colored eyes tend to experience that more often; it's definitely true for me.

What does Lasik eye surgery do? Does it replace your corneas/lenses?

Fascinating. I have never heard that before. My mother has light eyes and she always needs sunglasses. I have dark eyes and I am always like, "Ma, it's not even that bright out!" Maybe it is true for her as well.

I think I look good in glasses, but I only need them to protect my eyes from the sun. Too bad there don't seem to be as many flattering frame styles for sunglasses. It's hard to find a pair that really suits my face.

C'mon, Miles! You could get a pair of these!

Ya know, I couldn't tell ya medically what it does. Here's what Wikipedia says:
The operation itself involves creating a thin flap on the eye, folding it to enable remodeling of the tissue beneath with a laser. The flap is repositioned and the eye is left to heal in the postoperative period.

Gross!

I betcha it is! I know, I feel obvious when it's cloudy and there I am squinting until I can get my shades on.

I hate glasses. I wore them as a kid and then since like 17 have been wearing contacts. Then found out I was wearing them too much and now have to wear glasses in the evenings to give my eyes a break. I hope I get used to them because I HATE them. They never fit right and they feel strange and did I mention that they never seem to fit right??? At least they look better on me than when I was younger....but still!!!!:(
I switched to contacts last year, and I can't say I miss glasses at all.
