Since, I'm in a bit of a predicament, with nobody to give me communion that I am in fellowship with; does anybody know it's ok to give myself communion if I prepare for it spiritually? I mean, I have no clue and I'm trying to have my family send me a "communion kit". I don't want to "bring judgment" on myself. If anyone knows, please fill me in. Thanks!

According to the Lutheran Confessions, no one is to administer the Sacrament unless he be rightly called. Also, there is no sacrament outside the context of the Mass.

There is no teaching regarding the Lord's Supper as being necessary for salvation. I would urge you to either seek out one of the chaplains listed above, or wait until such time as you can attend a service or have a visit from an ordained chaplain.

I don't know how the Lutheran church works on this subject but in the Catholic Church you should never do this.

Sounds like good advice then, I guess I will seek out one of the chaplains then. I don't really want to just walk up to a chaplain, who is normally a lieutenant or a captain and just ask them what their denom is. Now I know though, so thank you for the information and guidance.

Mickeeh,
Would you PM me where you are in Iraq and your unit information. I do know an LCMS chaplain who is over there. I am sure he would be glad to help you out if you are in the area.

Tangible,
I hate to say it, but that is an old listing unfortunately. One on there just returned from over a year in Afghanistan.

Also, I know the idea of walking up to an office and just asking them a question, but realize that the Chaplains are unique in that you can do that.

OH darn, that would be a problem then. Sorry about that.

Chaplain Moss was a Sem classmate of my husband's so he is a personal friend. In fact, his home duty stations is the same as my son's, different units, yet both units are in Iraq at different places.

I can't imagine that being a problem. Remember, their call from God is greater than that of the Army, Air Force, Marines or Navy. :D

I talked to my dad who used to be an elder in my church and he told me my pastor said it would be ok for my dad to give me communion over Skype, they just need to mail me the Eucherist, I just need to get the grape juice. Problem solved! Thanks for the names, I'll still try to track down one of the chaplains though.

Great.

Now, before anyone questions the grape juice versus wine thing, he can't get wine over there. One of those things are military are not allowed to have in Iraq.

yeah, it's a no no. We do have an abundance of near-beer over here though. It has a whopping .3% alcohol content. Not very good I'm afraid. One would think that the army would make exceptions on the wine though due to religious use. We're not allowed alcohol because of the muslim faith, but when did it take precedence over the true Faith in Christ? Keep to ourselves though, I got some grape juice and I won't be using it till I get the Eucharists, the juice may or may not ferment accidentally. ;-)
