I am unemployed and don't receive social welfare at the moment. (It's a long story and I have the mental illness OCD) I still live at home and I my mom sometimes give me money to buy food. I don't buy other things then only food if I want to cook something. I do have a lot of savings though. So do I have to give tithe or is there nothing to give? I do give some coins though as a tithe.

Tithing is meant to be a portion of our regular income so if you arent working currently, it is optional if you want to give money . God will understand. He is looking faithfulness with what we have been given . Perhaps instead of giving money at this difficult time for yourself, you could give of your time or talents in some way either at your local church or volunteer some of your time at a para-church ministry like a Soup Kitchen for the homeless. (?) .

(2 Corinthians 9:7) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

if you don't want to give, or if you feel that giving is a requirement, or if you aren't cheerful about giving - then you should keep your money because you'll need it. but if you want to give, and you don't do it because it is a requirement, and you do it cheerfully - there are great benefits. the key is to be led by God in your giving.

(2 Corinthians 9:8) And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
(2 Corinthians 9:9) (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
(2 Corinthians 9:10) Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness ;
(2 Corinthians 9:11) Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

If you have savings, then you have money. Why don't you tithe from that. You are giving to God when you tithe, not man. This is the mentality you should always have.
And those who give to God, He will open the storehouse unto them.

If hes already paid a tithe on his income then his savings doesnt need to be tithed again because his savings came from his income. God understands our financial/work situation and doesnt place demands on those who are unemployed.

She said she's 'unemployed but has a lot of savings'. What will you conclude from that? If I were a little kid and I had savings but not working. I would know to take from that savings and give to God. Its not supposed to be something anyone forces on another.

The old lady who used to drop a pence in the collection box was unemployed and The Lord saw that.

God only reciprocate to CHEERFUL givers. Whatever we do, we have to do it from our heart. Ultimately its up to her.

Giving tithe isn't just about income. It's about giving minimum 10% of your first fruit, which is anytime you receive money, whether from a job, friends, or whatever it doesn't matter just give 10% of the money you receive. Trust me DO THIS! I'm unemployed too but I continue to tithe whenever I receive money from any means and God KEEPS blessing me with more money w/o any job. Tithing involves complete obedient no matter how little you have just give from your first fruit and God will KEEP blessing. God has blessed me so much just from tithing that my school tuition is paid off and bills paid with money left over for my enjoyment. God isn't joking when He said if you give to Him, He'll bless you more than you can handle. But it takes complete OBEDIENCE :)

Malachi 3:10 NLT

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!

So your question is, basically, "Can I trust God? Can I trust Him with my savings?"

The answer is yes.

Tithe, but don't just tithe, give your money freely to what God puts on your heart to give it to and learn to depend on Him alone and you'll have more blessings than you know what to do with.

They have stolen it from you. Tithe is paid regardless of how much they hate you. :)

The earth supplies enough for all to have enough. They rob some from that because it is easy. God is aware of all.

We cheerfully give at church, regardless of joblessness or income... we give
materially, monetarily, prayerfully or in volunteering to do
"projects" or work detail at church etc...we do it happily.

Thats the right attitude.

What i conclude from her being unemployed yet has (alot of) savings...is :

1. Shes already tithed on that money shes got in savings.
2. It is optional if she wants to tithe (on it / with it) again., every Sunday.
3. God not only looks at what/ how we give financially...but also how we give of our time, talents, and other treasures in a sacrificial manner.
4. The word 'alot in savings' is a relative term ; could be $2,000 to $20,000 to $200,000 --- regardless it may be a VERY long time until she is able to secure another job in which case her savings will dwindle.

The original tithe fed the people who had no income or property to lean back on.

It is between you and God - you have no obligation to any human who tells you that you must tithe. If you have income, then hold that up before God and ask Him for advice. God provided a replacement for Abraham, and Jesus paid his taxes from a coin in a fish. God knows where resources are hidden; He can teach you how to trust Him to reveal what you need for the moment.

The Bible shows tithes, sacrifices, and grain offerings also as a gesture of repentance, sharing, and appreciation -- so make sure those bases are covered internally. (Jesus paid the sacrifice.)

Under the New Covenant of Grace through the blood of Jesus there is no obligation whatsoever to give any tithe, as that was for those under the Law of Moses.

Give whatever is in your heart to cheerfully give, that is all you have to do. It is important that you do not set a number or a goal, otherwise you will try to meet that as a requirement. There is none. Give whatever you want.

Ideally, you will be moved to generosity and you will share everything you have with those who have need around you. If you are the one who has need, be sure to be generous to your friends at least whenever you can, by doing acts of kindness for them. Generosity can come in forms other than money, which is important when you have none.

You don't have to tithe if you don't want to, theres no rule that says you must.

Most people don't want to tithe money because money is their idol and/or they simply can't afford to. I myself am on SSI and after my bills I have about $100 left. I tithe $75 out of that $100 ($75 being 10% of my total check). Also its 10% because I just think its a good number. I have noticed things seem to be going better since I tithed money.

The only thing we tend to value more then money is our time. Tithing time means we may not be able to watch a football game, go see a movie...etc. So I think time is better to tithe really. Aside from my money I tithe alot of my time. I enjoy doing things for others so to me I'm not really sacrificing anything. But again it doesn't mean you have to. You should give because you want to, not because you feel you have to.

You should always tithe period no matter good times or hard times. We can not just say God will provide in the good times but not in the bad times. No God provides all the time and not tithing in hard times shows weak faith. God will bless you for your tithe especially in hard times because you are letting go of that money. It's not even your money it's Gods so esentially you are stealing form God. You should always tithe at least 10% of your income. It doesn't matter what you have going on God will be even more faithful to you in hard times if you have faith.

Tithing is in scripture it is biblical and is an important part of being a Christian. We can not get stuff done in the kingdom with out money unfortunatly it is necessary. Churches, charities, organizations, supporting your pastor it all revolves aorund money and is important in order to reach the lost.

There have been many hard times for my husband and I but our tithe is the first check we write every week. And there have been times I never thought the bills would get paid but God provides every time. Tithing even in hard times really shows you God's power and blessings you can really see him work.

If no one were to tithe, there would be no churches. There would be very few food cupboards, homeless shelters, crisis pregnancy centers, mission efforts, ministers, choir directors, instruments in the service, chairs to sit on, counselors in a crisis. The world would have paid wedding and funeral facilitators, and expensive rental for these ceremonies.

Scripturally... I would challenge people to find verses that clearly declare a lifting of responsibility. We are free from the curse of the law of sin and death -- we are not bound by sin and the guilt of our sinfulness. Jesus still honored the festivals, broke bread at the Last Supper for Passover, read scriptures in the temple, paid taxes through the coin in the fish, had many conversations with religious leaders around the temple. He spoke about the heart of the law vs. rigid legalism.

If you are not bringing in money, then you have nothing to tithe ten percent on. Ten percent of zero is zero.

There is no obligation on you to tithe.

I'd say that, under the circumstances, if someone else gives you money for food or some other special purpose, you cannot use it for a different purpose--like church--without talking to them about it.
