Hi guys :),

I downloaded some very good prayers. And praying is good, but in my opinion there is one very important thing and that is giving thanks to Him. But in prayers we mostly ask, we do not give thanks. Are there some prayers or something that give thanks to God or glory Him.

Blessings to all of you :).

How about the Great Doxology? This is the one we do at the end of matins/just before the Divine Liturgy

Glory to you who has shown us the light.
Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill to all people.
We praise you, we bless you, we worship you, we glorify you, we give thanks to you for your great glory.
Lord, King, heavenly God, Father, almighty; Lord, the only‑begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit.
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father who take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us, you who take away the sins of the world.
Receive our prayer, you who sit at the right hand of the Father, and have mercy on us.
For you only are holy, only you are Lord
Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Each day we bless you, and we praise your name forever and to the ages of ages.
Lord, grant that we may be kept this day without sin.
Blessed are you, Lord, God of our fathers. Your name is praised and glorified throughout all ages. Amen.
Let your mercy, Lord, be upon us, as our trust is in you.
Blessed are you, Lord, teach me your statutes (3).
Lord, you have been our refuge from generation to generation. I said: Lord, have mercy on me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against you.
Lord, to you have I fled; teach me to do your will, for you are my God.
For you are the source of life, and in your light we shall see light.
Extend your mercy to those who know you.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us (3).
Glory . . . Now and forever . . .
Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.
(Then we sing in a stronger voice:)
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.

Glorifying God is thanking Him, really, in our thinking. And the Eucharist is the ultimate in thanksgiving - that's what Eucharist actually means in Greek!

There's also the Akathist Glory to God for all things, aka the Akathist of thanksgiving (linked, because it's LONG):
The Akathist Hymn: "Glory to God for All Things"

again, note the "Glory to thee for x, glory to thee for x", that means thanksgiving.

It's often read on Thanksgiving, for obvious reasons :) "Doxa soi" (glory to you) essentially = thankyou

There are thanksgiving prayers for specific occasions, like thanksgiving after illness, so you can google those if you want :)

As Choirfiend said, giving thanks to God is central to Orthodoxy. You might like the Akathist of Thanksgiving which was written by a priest, Fr Gregory Petrov jsut before he dies in a communist death camp.

When Elder Zacharias from St. John the Baptist Monastery in Essex, England visited our parish almost 2 years ago, he told me to give thanks in song to our God every morning. So one of the hymns I sing is Psalm 33 that we end every Divine Liturgy with. :)

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall be continually in my mouth.

In the Lord my soul shall make her boast; let the meek hear and be glad.

O magnify the Lord with me; and let us exalt His name together.

I sought the Lord and He heard me; and delivered me from all my affliction.

Draw nigh to Him and be enlightened; and your faces shall not be ashamed.

This poor one cried and the Lord heard him; and saved him from all his tribulation.

The angel of the Lord will encamp round about them that fear Him; and shall deliver them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that hopeth in Him.

Fear the Lord all ye His saints; for there is no lack for them that fear Him.

The rich have become poor and hungry; but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

Thank you all, you were very helping. I have an idea. Why don't we try to write songs about God? Like for example protestants do. With what are we less then them? ;)I have a guitar and she have never told anyone anything about God, but she's going to talk ;).

I've written lyrics before. :)

Give thanks and Glory to the one God above all
Who is there to help us when we sometimes fall
For when in the heart of trials we sometimes feel weak
He is there through all the miles we walk to seek
To be with Him and let us never cease
To sing hymns of praise to the Prince of Peace.

My mom spent time in Hitler's concentration camp, &
she did the best she could, to continue... living.
Observing her mom, & her daughter, I decided to live differently...
kinda the opposite: not merely 1 day of 'thanksgiving'
but
to "thanks-Live..." get the Operative-difference
