gimp art for beginners

as you see i use gimp to creat my graphics im starting from the beginning look for file on **Gimp**

go to new it well open

and if you want to work from scratch you well get a blank page like this

thanks a lot war, I think what i'm doing wrong is that i am starting with the hard part and getting discouraged. Had a pic and was trying to put on a drop shadow. trying to add text with a shadow and trying to learn layers. Almost had it until I got to part I had no idea what they were saying and no one to ask.I played with it all day(way to long with no results) So think I will take a step back and start at the beginning, with some easy stuff. I can't draw real well so wanted to start with a pic, and remake it. But----- keep showing me how maybe someday it will sink in.

I have given up with gimp, to hard. You find a tutorial then find out it isn't the right one!! There gimp tutorials are to in depth. Warrior is learning it maybe you could give her a hand.

I kno exacly wut u mean they use a bunch of big words go to in depth!
IT CAN GET REALLY CONFUZING!
Im still trying to get some aspects down but i guess i can try to help on any questions yall have!
i have been in a Digital Graphics class and we have been learning about Photoshop CS3- similar to gimp
but still very different
I have been getting confused beteen the two!
And been having problems with simple selection tecniques!

I still have to touch up on the sides of her but i am pretty much finished..

See if i only had photoshop i would have done it in like 5 mins.
But with gimp and the long drawn out tutorials it took like 45 mins.
