  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ok well I downloaded Gimp, tried to read the help file 3 nights in a row and could not even get one pet colored or 'painted' and saved in a format that I could then save on my photobucket so I uninstalled it, now you all are saying it rocks and it is easy to learn and I feel really stupid. my thoughts were if we could find a way to 'drop' the white square from behind the pets and make it trasparent then we should be able to put them into other graphics without having to cut them out of thier little box every time. I thought that I could do this by creating a new alpha channel and making the white transparent by floating it and telling the program to turn it black or transparent and then sticking it back down but then when I tried to save it it said I couldnt save. I feel so stupid that I cant figure out how to do the layers and the channels and the alphas sns omegas I just ended up quiting. I was so stoked to try to learn this and I dont hink I got very far. maybe will give it another try if there are peeps here willing to try to help with ideas and share some of the steps along the way, such as if anyone can save a pic of the pets without this white box and teach me how to do it, that woud be great!! that is the first thing on my agenda in trying to create new graphics with them but I gotta get rid of the darn white box around them first.

also, when you select copy directly over a pet on a profileo r post you end up only copying the face... as such.. ... so what I would like to learn with gimp is how to overlay the face onto the chosen pet, then also to shoose a color for a pet and to discard the square around the pet to make it transparent in order to then lay the pet into a graphic such as warior does. now maybe I am just going about this all wrong and maybe someone else has a much easier way, or even has a collection of finished pets without the square that they would not mind offering in order that I can use them in generating new graphics with.

soooo, any suggestins on what I SHOULD do if I cant figure this out? I cant see myself actually trying to cut out each pet every time I want to use it so not sure how to save a master list to be able to copy into graphic backgrounds. if anyone has such a master list please let me know the only ones that I do have are the ones that are anmated that Gregged has given us, but not sure even if these would work as they are animated and not stationary.

very frustrated still with gimp, but willing to learn if anyone can simplify it any more. also found the following for anyone else still struggling to learn GiMP......
http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/index.html

I have not had time to look it over but it is at least an alternative to the other tutorial(s) found so far.

well I am still pluggina along here trying to figure out what I shuold focus my first pet forums graphic on and I suppose it will be for Mothers day, anyway so I am looking around for background stuff to add the pets too, then thought I wounder if there are others here at CF outside pet forums interested in learning graphics and I found this thread under hobbies, not to change the subject away from gimp but maybe I will take a look at this as well....

Photoshop for free just follow this thread and maybe one of you can let me know what they mean here.

ok here is what I just finished setting up..just started a new free photobucket account just for working with the pets and graphics. feel free to use these fillers as you are creating your graphics. so far I have loaded the top 50 faces (not going to go any lower), the Gregged animated pets, and the above pets both with and without faces but non with color yet. those that I added the faces to are all with the 100% smiley face. I loaded the faceless images in case you want to use a different face or if it is easier for you to color them first then add the faces. I just overlaid the face onto the picture of the pet and then saved it as a copy. I just ask that you dont direct link through this account as it is a free account and I intend to use it mostly to store graphics for cf pets both completed and pieces in progress. actually as I think about it, I think I should still make it private to save the copyright images of CF from getting out to public areas. this being the case my guest password will be cffa43 (low case letters) and the account is under my main user name + Cf = zfawnzsCF and if you are not familiar with the new PB views, the folders are on the top right side - the above mentioned files are under the Pets Album I have not figured out how to make the white background transparent yet but when I do I will load them without the background - as well as the colorized images when I get to them - as soon as I find a program that I find easiest to change the colors in.

only way to save the complete pet, face and all, is to take a screen shoot of pet, with screenprint key, and save to your pb accout, then you can do whatever you want with it in your graphics program.

thanks. with this in mind and knowing that we likely have more pets in daycare now than ever before and perhaps a record I went ahead and did several screen shots to capture the entire list so that we have several to choose from with varying colors and stages etc.....here they are for those that would like them just copy to your pc and then you can cut out and copy the individual pets to use as you see fit in your graphics....

copy the entire image to your pc and then open in whatever imaging software you have...there should be a cut out option that may open a box with different ways of cutting ... rectangle, circle, free style etc....pick the rectangle then you draw a box around the pet you want by clicking on the top left corner and dragging the rectangle to the bottom right corner. a dotted line should appear. you may then have to right click and choose 'cut out' once you have cut it out, copy this sut out and paste into a new image and save. I will be doing this myself and loading the individual images to the PB petrescuer account so you need not worry for this scenario but for the future that is how I do it. then again I am not sure what soft ware you have, I am using microsoft image composer, it comes with microsoft office if you have that.

yep and with a record number of pets in there it makes for great diversity. I just cut out and created individual images of about 100 pets from the above 5 screen shots (finished 3 out of 5 of them) and am loading them onto the CFpetRESCUER photobucket account to be used by anyone that wishes to use them in graphics.
