Because the assumption is that this is the result of "Man-Made Global Warming". If true, there should be no evidence of something like this happening prior to the IR.

No. The reasoning is that if it happened before, there's no reason to conclude that human action is responsible because things warmed up without human action.

By this "reasoning", there's no reason to conclude your kids shouldn't plat with matches since there was fire before.

(Just count the lifeboats this time and try and have the lifeboat-to-passenger ratio be a mixed number rather than a proper fraction this time.)

Turns out that if you heat certain metals over a long time, they get brittle and thus get cut open easier by wandering icebergs.

Snopes is checking into it.

In the end, it sunk, and we'll likely never know what exactly caused what, and what would have happened if things went differently. It's at least an interesting factoid.
