  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Apparently they're going to remake, "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and plan to cast Justin Bieber as one of the main characters.

I'm a movie reviewer for a local newspaper, and so I have to go see the movie.

I think the most telling thing about the film is that even though it's supposed to be a sign of how "progressive" we are, the trailers prominently feature a race joke. For those who haven't seen it, one of the Ghostbusters goes to stage-dive during a concert. When the audience doesn't catch her, she demands to know if it was because the audience is racist or if it was because the audience was sexist. A joke like that is straight-up in poor taste, especially since we don't have the context of the full scene.

A lot of the other jokes and gags in the trailers weren't all that funny, either. The way the four main cast members over-acted a number of scenes didn't help. The whole thing obviously needed another round of editing and re-writing.

Then we have the first trailer referencing the original film and the fact that it's been over 30 years, leaving confusion as to whether or not this is a sequel or a reboot.

And as if that all wasn't bad enough, we've got the shoddy special effects work. The original film featured a legion of puppeteers, special effects workers, cinematographers, and others pushing the limits of what could be done back then. Yet this new film gives us "Haunted Mansion"-level CGI work when anyone who's seen a recent Michael Bay film knows Hollywood is capable of so much more. The ghosts in the film stand out like a bad blue-screen job.

Of course, the very fact that I was critical of the film in the first place means that I'm going to be derided by Hollywood as a "sexist" even though I stuck solely to material matters like writing, acting ability, and special effects.

How are they going to film an entire movie in a kitchen?

Lol.

Maybe it's a movie where dames wonder out of the kitchen and the moral of the story is that dames need to stay in the kitchen they have to find that out the hard way and at the end of the movie they go back to the kitchen and make sandwiches.

I heard the new Ghostbusters got good reviews. Good for them if it's legitimate. Despite some of the unsavory comments and actions of those involved in the production, I was never rooting for the film to fail.

Saw it on Friday.

If the film had been released in 2006, it would have been a blockbuster. But the special effects, CGI, humor, and stunt work are all dated compared to what we're getting now.

That being said though, if this was 2006 then Harold Ramis would still be alive.
