I agree that there can be some Christians who are too quick to judge you and your artwork. But please allow me to add a different element to this just for your consideration.
Before I accepted Christ I was a science fiction writer and artist. I was better known for my artwork, and for my work as an editor of an online magazine. I was moving up in professional status when my life was turned upside down... or should I say RIGHT SIDE UP!
So, I painted a whole lot of dragons and vampires and elves and stuff. I was really into it! For ME, however, all that stuff led me down a path into the occult, and it got me into a whole lot of trouble. I am not exaggerating when I say that my experiences in the occult nearly destroyed my health, my marriage, my sanity, even my life. The things of the occult are REAL and they do not have good intentions for us AT ALL. Satan masquerades as an angel of light so that he can get close to us... so we don't fear him.
It wasn't until I fell on my knees and begged Christ to save me that all the voices went away, that all the darkness turned to light, that my heart stopped wildly palpitating, that I was able to relate to my husband again, that I was able to see the numerous other things in my life that had taken too much control over me. After that, I finished up a few obligations that I had in the science fiction field, and I left it behind. I even destroyed a lot of my paintings (some of them worth $1000 or more), and I had no regrets for that whatsoever. I'm still painting, and I've started writing again, but I'm doing it now for the Lord, and He has been just blessing my socks off through it!
Does painting a dragon mean you're dabbling in the occult? No, I wouldn't say so. But I think it would be a good thing to sort of look inside yourself and ask WHY you are so fascinated with such things. It is the "why" that is revealing, not the "what."
Christians know that Satan is real, and they know to steer away from him. But sometimes they can be too judgmental and they end up just pushing away the person they're trying to reach. But then, Christians are still human and we make mistakes too.
Hope this helps you to see just a little bit where they are coming from! Maybe if you can understand it, it won't bother you quite so much, if nothing else.
Cheers,
Diana
